Our verdict on the Aeris
The Aeris has one strong argument and it is a good one: a 419-litre boot in a car under four metres long, more than the Dzire, Aura or Amaze. Tata has also priced it unusually clearly, with the CNG a flat ₹1 lakh and the AMT a flat ₹55,000 at every trim, so you can decide once what each is worth and move on. The weak points are the engine, a 1.2 three-cylinder with about 86 PS that will feel modest with four aboard, and the 4-star Global NCAP rating where Tata’s own Altroz has five Bharat NCAP stars. Note too that ESP arrives only from Pure Plus, which is one more reason to start there.
Good things
- 419-litre boot, the largest in the class
- CNG and AMT premiums are the same at every trim
- CNG is offered with an AMT at every trim from Pure upwards
- 360-degree camera and ventilated seats available below ₹9 lakh
Could be better
- 4-star Global NCAP where Tata’s own Altroz has five Bharat NCAP stars
- About 86 PS and 113 Nm, modest with a full load
- ESP and hill hold are missing on the Smart and Pure trims
- Claimed economy figures, especially for CNG, are not yet clear

Tata Aeris: the biggest boot in the class, priced plainly
The Aeris replaces the Tigor as Tata’s compact sedan. It is 3,995 mm long with a 2,450 mm wheelbase and 170 mm of ground clearance, and its 419-litre boot beats the Dzire, Aura and Amaze. The CNG versions use two cylinders under the boot floor rather than one upright tank, which keeps a flat load space even if some volume is lost.
There is one engine, Tata’s 1.2 three-cylinder Revotron, making about 86 PS and 113 Nm on petrol and about 75 PS on CNG. Both fuels come with a five-speed manual or a five-speed AMT, except the base Smart, which is manual only. Tata had not published claimed economy figures we could confirm when we checked, so ask at the showroom.
The trims are Smart, Pure, Pure Plus, Creative and Accomplished, giving 18 versions in all. Indicative ex-showroom prices run from ₹5.30 lakh to ₹9.75 lakh. Six airbags are standard, while ESP, hill hold and tyre-pressure monitoring start at Pure Plus. The Accomplished is the only trim offered with a black roof.
Which variant should you buy?
The Pure Plus at ₹6.75 lakh for the petrol manual. It is the first trim with ESP, hill hold, a reverse camera, cruise control and rear AC vents. Creative adds a larger screen, LED headlamps and a 360-degree camera for ₹75,000, which is worth it if you park in tight spaces.
Petrol or CNG?
The CNG costs exactly ₹1 lakh more at every trim. It makes sense if you drive a lot in town, but confirm the claimed CNG economy and how much boot space you keep at the showroom before you work out the payback.
Manual or AMT?
The AMT is ₹55,000 more at every trim, on both petrol and CNG. It makes city driving easier, though it shifts more slowly than a torque converter. The CNG AMT is unusual in this class and suits heavy city users.
How does it compare with the Maruti Dzire?
The Dzire has a 5-star Global NCAP rating, ESP on every variant and better claimed economy. The Aeris has the bigger boot, a cheaper entry price, a 360-degree camera lower down the range and a twin-cylinder CNG layout. If safety ratings come first, the Dzire; if luggage space matters most, the Aeris.
