Our verdict on the Punch
The naturally aspirated Punch in a mid trim is still the sensible buy. Safety is no longer a reason to climb the range, because six airbags and TPMS are standard, and the Adventure brings a 360-degree camera at under ₹8 lakh. The 120 PS turbo is a real improvement to drive, with 170 Nm against the regular engine’s 115 Nm, but it is only sold on the Adventure (₹8.47 lakh) and the top Accomplished+ S (₹9.97 lakh). At that top price, a loaded Punch sits in the same bracket as a mid-spec Nexon, which is a larger car. Price the Nexon before you sign for a top turbo.
Good things
- Six airbags and TPMS are standard from the ₹5.75 lakh Smart
- 120 PS turbo with 170 Nm and a six-speed gearbox
- Twin-cylinder iCNG keeps a usable boot, and now offers an AMT
- 360-degree camera from the mid-range Adventure
Could be better
- Top turbo and CNG AMT versions sit close to ₹10–11 lakh, Nexon territory
- The naturally aspirated engine makes 115 Nm and needs working when loaded
- Turbo is manual only and limited to two trims
- 26 variants across names like Pure+ S and Accomplished+ S make the list hard to read

Tata Punch: the turbo changes the question
The Punch got a major update in January 2026, with new styling, a new cabin and, for the first time, a 1.2 turbo petrol. There are now three powertrains: an 88 PS 1.2 petrol with a five-speed manual or AMT, a twin-cylinder iCNG with a manual or AMT, and a 120 PS, 170 Nm 1.2 turbo with a six-speed manual. Claimed figures are 20.09 km/l for the petrol manual, 18.8 km/l for the AMT and 26.99 km/kg on CNG.
The trims are Smart, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Accomplished and Accomplished+, with an S suffix for versions with an electric sunroof. Six airbags and TPMS are standard. Pure adds rear AC vents, Pure+ adds the 8-inch touchscreen and rear camera, Adventure adds climate control and a 360-degree camera, and Accomplished adds a 10.25-inch screen and 16-inch alloys.
As of October 2026, prices run from ₹5.75 lakh to ₹10.77 lakh ex-showroom across 26 variants. The turbo costs ₹8.47 lakh in Adventure trim and ₹9.97 lakh in Accomplished+ S, both with the six-speed manual. The boot holds 366 litres on petrol versions and 210 litres with CNG, thanks to the twin-cylinder layout under the floor.
Which variant should you buy?
Adventure or Adventure S on the naturally aspirated petrol, or the iCNG if you do a lot of city driving. It has the equipment people actually use, including the 360-degree camera and climate control, without reaching the price band where a bigger car becomes an option.
Is the turbo worth it?
It is a better engine: 170 Nm from low revs makes the Punch far easier with a full car or on the highway. The Adventure turbo costs ₹70,000 more than the regular Adventure manual, which is fair. The ₹9.97 lakh Accomplished+ S turbo is harder to justify against a Nexon.
Petrol or CNG?
iCNG costs about ₹1–1.1 lakh more than the matching petrol trim. The twin-cylinder layout keeps 210 litres of boot, and there is now an AMT. If you drive more than about 1,000 km a month in the city with easy CNG access, it repays the premium.
How does it compare with the Tata Nexon?
The Nexon is longer, roomier and offers more engines. A mid-spec Punch is cheaper and easier to park. Once a Punch climbs towards ₹10 lakh, you should compare it with an equivalently priced Nexon, because the extra size usually wins.
