Mahindra Bolero
Mahindra’s long-running body-on-frame utility vehicle, with a 1.5 diesel, rear-wheel drive and seven seats in a body under four metres. The October 2025 update brought a touchscreen, new styling and a reworked suspension, but the basics are unchanged. It suits buyers in smaller towns and rural areas who need toughness, easy repairs and load-carrying ability more than comfort or modern safety.

Our verdict on the Bolero
The Bolero is still bought for what it is: a simple, rugged, rear-wheel-drive diesel that copes with bad roads, heavy loads and village mechanics. The 2025 update made it more pleasant inside, but it remains a basic vehicle with two airbags, a 76 PS engine and an old-fashioned ride. If that toughness is what you need, the B6 is the sensible buy. If you mostly drive in town or on highways and want a newer design, more power and more safety kit, the Bolero Neo or a modern compact SUV will serve you better at a similar price.
Good things
- Rugged body-on-frame build and rear-wheel drive handle rough roads and loads
- Simple mechanicals that are cheap and easy to repair almost anywhere
- Seven seats in a footprint under four metres
- Prices stay under ₹10 lakh for every variant
Could be better
- Two airbags only; no variant offers more
- 76 PS is slow on highways, especially when loaded
- Side-facing third-row seats are best for short trips
- No automatic option

Mahindra Bolero: a working vehicle with a few modern touches
The Bolero is one of India’s longest-running utility vehicles, and the October 2025 update kept the formula intact. It is still built on a ladder frame, drives the rear wheels, and uses Mahindra’s 1.5-litre mHawk75 diesel with 76 PS and 210 Nm through a five-speed manual. What changed is the look, a new grille and dark styling options, a new top B8 trim, and a suspension update Mahindra calls RideFlo.
There are four variants: B4, B6, B6 (O) and B8. All get two front airbags, ABS and rear parking sensors. The B6 adds the everyday comforts like power windows, a remote key, central locking and a 7-inch touchscreen. B6 (O) adds fog lamps, bending headlamps and a rear wiper. B8 adds diamond-cut alloys and leatherette seats.
As of October 2026, prices run from ₹8.57 lakh to ₹9.99 lakh ex-showroom, after a price rise in May 2026. That is also the price of a well-equipped compact SUV with six airbags and a modern cabin, so the Bolero only makes sense if you need what it does well: rough roads, heavy loads and simple, cheap repairs far from a big city.
Which variant should you buy?
B6. It brings power windows, central locking, a touchscreen and steering controls for about ₹80,000 over B4. B6 (O) adds lamps and a rear wiper for ₹32,000 more, which is reasonable if you drive at night on unlit roads. B8’s alloys and leatherette are cosmetic.
Bolero or Bolero Neo?
The Neo also uses a ladder frame, but it has a 100 PS, 260 Nm version of the diesel, a more modern cabin and more equipment in higher trims. The classic Bolero is cheaper to buy and simpler. If you drive mostly on highways or carry passengers more than cargo, look at the Neo.
Is it safe enough for a family?
It has the legal minimum of two airbags plus ABS. Modern compact SUVs at this price offer six airbags and stability control. If the car is mainly for family use on good roads, we would choose one of those. The Bolero’s case rests on durability, not safety equipment.
