Skoda Kylaq
Skoda’s most affordable car in India, and the rare compact SUV where the cheapest variant gets the same 115 PS 1.0 TSI turbo as the most expensive one. A 2,566 mm wheelbase and 189 mm of ground clearance make it roomier and more road-ready than most rivals under four metres. It suits buyers who want a solid, quick small SUV and live near a Skoda workshop.

Our verdict on the Kylaq
On paper the Kylaq gives more for the money than anything else in its class. One engine across the range, a 1.0 TSI with 115 PS and 178 Nm from 1,750 rpm, means even the ₹7.59 lakh Classic gets the good motor. The long wheelbase and 189 mm of ground clearance are useful in daily use. The range has grown to seven trims, and the Signature manual at ₹9.49 lakh is still the sweet spot. Above Signature+, Sportline, Prestige and Prestige+ sit within ₹74,000 of each other and mostly add styling and comfort. The real trade-off is reach: Skoda has a few hundred touchpoints against Maruti’s thousands. In a metro that is a non-issue. Outside one, check your nearest workshop before anything else.
Good things
- One engine across the range: the ₹7.59 lakh Classic gets the same 115 PS turbo as the ₹13.09 lakh Prestige+
- 178 Nm from 1,750 rpm, a proper six-speed torque-converter automatic, and 189 mm of ground clearance
- 2,566 mm wheelbase and a 446-litre boot, both large for a sub-four-metre SUV
- Sunroof and cruise control arrive as early as the ₹8.29 lakh Classic+
Could be better
- Dealer and service reach is a fraction of Maruti’s or Hyundai’s; check what is near you first
- The automatic costs a flat ₹1 lakh at every trim, which is steep on the cheaper ones
- Seven trims and thirteen versions make the top of the range confusing, with small gaps between Sportline, Prestige and Prestige+
- Resale on a low-volume badge is softer than the segment leaders’

Skoda Kylaq: the full engine at the entry price
The Kylaq is Skoda’s entry ticket in India, a sub-four-metre SUV built on the same base as the Kushaq. Where most rivals give the base car a weaker engine, every Kylaq gets the 1.0 TSI turbo petrol with 115 PS and 178 Nm, paired with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic. It is built locally in India.
Prices run from ₹7.59 lakh for the Classic manual to ₹13.09 lakh for the Prestige+ automatic, ex-showroom. The line-up now has seven trims: Classic, Classic+, Signature, Signature+, Sportline, Prestige and Prestige+. Every trim except Classic can be had with the automatic, and the automatic adds a flat ₹1 lakh.
Practicality is better than the size suggests. The 2,566 mm wheelbase frees up rear legroom, the boot holds 446 litres, and 189 mm of ground clearance handles bad roads and speed breakers. Six airbags and stability control are standard, and the car holds a five-star Bharat NCAP rating. Boot space expands to 1,265 litres with the rear seats folded.
Which variant should you buy?
The Signature manual at ₹9.49 lakh. It adds the touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, rear AC vents, alloys, a tyre-pressure monitor and a rear wiper, while keeping the sunroof and cruise control from Classic+. Signature+ is worth the extra ₹1.3 lakh only if you want the bigger wireless screen, digital dials, camera and keyless entry.
Manual or automatic?
The six-speed torque-converter automatic is smooth and suits city traffic, but it costs ₹1 lakh at every trim and claims 19.05 km/l against the manual’s 19.68 km/l. If most of your driving is in heavy traffic, the Classic+ AT at ₹9.29 lakh is the cheapest way to get it.
Is the Sportline worth it?
Only if you like the look. It sits between Signature+ and Prestige and adds black 17-inch alloys, a contrast roof, an all-black cabin, ambient lighting and a wireless charger. The engine is unchanged. Prestige costs ₹50,000 more and brings ventilated seats and LED projector headlights, which are more useful.
How does it compare with the Kia Sonet?
The Sonet offers a diesel and a DCT automatic, which the Kylaq does not, and Kia’s network is wider. The Kylaq answers with its turbo engine from the base trim, a bigger boot and more ground clearance. If you only want petrol, the Kylaq is better value; if you want diesel, the Sonet is the choice.
