Tata Aeris: the first price list in years that doesn't try to confuse you

Eighteen variants, and the CNG costs exactly ₹1 lakh on every single one of them. The AMT costs exactly ₹55,000 on every single one. After a month of reading Indian price ladders, that is almost disorienting.

Ex-showroom
₹5.30 – 9.75 L
Launched
25 September 2026
Boot, petrol
419 litres
Boot, CNG
227 litres
Safety
4-star Global NCAP, 6 airbags

What is good

  • 419-litre boot, the largest in the class, and 227 litres even with CNG fitted
  • CNG is a flat ₹1,00,000 and the AMT a flat ₹55,000 at every single trim
  • CNG is offered with the AMT, which the Dzire, Aura and Amaze do not match

What is not

  • 4-star Global NCAP where Tata's own Altroz manages five Bharat NCAP stars
  • 85 bhp and 113 Nm is the only engine, and it is modest with four people aboard
  • The CNG economy figure needs checking at the desk before you do the payback sum

The boot is the entire argument

419 litres, in a car that has to be under four metres long to qualify for the tax break that makes this whole segment exist.

For comparison: the Maruti Dzire has 382 litres, the Hyundai Aura 402, the Honda Amaze 416. The Aeris beats all three, and it beats most of them by enough to matter on the one weekend a year you're all going somewhere with suitcases.

Sub-four-metre sedans are bought by people who want a boot. That's the reason the shape survives at all when every showroom is pushing an SUV at them. The Aeris understands what it is for, which is more than can be said for a lot of cars.

A price list that behaves itself

Smart petrol MT is ₹5,30,000. Pure is ₹6,15,000. Pure Plus is ₹6,75,000. Creative is ₹7,50,000. Accomplished is ₹8,20,000.

Now watch what the options cost. Pure to Pure CNG: ₹1,00,000. Pure Plus to Pure Plus CNG: ₹1,00,000. Creative to Creative CNG: ₹1,00,000. Accomplished to Accomplished CNG: ₹1,00,000.

And the AMT. Pure to Pure AMT: ₹55,000. Pure Plus to Pure Plus AMT: ₹55,000. Creative to Creative AMT: ₹55,000. Accomplished to Accomplished AMT: ₹55,000. The same ₹55,000 on the CNG cars too.

This sounds like a small thing. It isn't. Most Indian ranges charge a different amount for the identical gearbox at every rung, specifically so you can't work out what you're paying for. The XUV 3XO asks ₹90,000 for its automatic at one trim and ₹1,58,000 at another. Tata has priced the Aeris so that you can decide once whether CNG is worth a lakh and whether two pedals are worth ₹55,000, and then just pick your trim.

Ex-showroom, October 2026. The CNG is ₹1,00,000 over the equivalent petrol at every trim and the AMT is ₹55,000 over the equivalent manual at every trim, so you can price either option once and apply it anywhere in the range. Step up is what the next trim costs within the same fuel and gearbox, so it is a like-for-like comparison rather than the difference between two rows that happen to sit next to each other.

What the CNG costs you in luggage

419 litres becomes 227. That's 192 litres gone, which is a bigger proportional hit than the Altroz takes.

It's still the largest boot of any CNG sedan in the segment, because Tata runs two cylinders laid under the boot floor while every rival here uses one upright tank. You keep a flat, square load bay instead of a cave with an obstacle in it.

So the honest framing is this: the CNG Aeris has a worse boot than the petrol Aeris, and a better boot than any CNG rival. Both of those are true and the second one is why people will buy it.

The payback sum, and why we are not finishing it for you

The CNG premium is ₹1,00,000 and we are confident in that number, because it repeats identically at five different trims.

The economy figure is where we'd rather you checked than trusted us. The claimed CNG figure we've seen quoted is close enough to the petrol car's that the payback would stretch towards a lakh of kilometres, which would be unusual for a CNG car and is out of line with what the segment normally delivers. One of those figures is probably being reported wrong somewhere between Tata and the listing sites.

Ask the showroom for the ARAI certificate figures for both fuels in writing, put your own city's petrol and CNG prices against them, and divide ₹1,00,000 by the difference. That's a five-minute sum that decides a lakh of your money, and it's worth doing with real numbers rather than ours.

The safety number to raise at the desk

The Aeris carries a 4-star Global NCAP result and six airbags as standard.

Six airbags across the range is genuinely good and not every rival matches it. But four stars sits oddly next to the Altroz, Tata's own hatchback, which holds five stars under Bharat NCAP. Different tests, different protocols, and the two aren't directly comparable, which is exactly why it's worth asking rather than assuming.

If safety is near the top of your list, ask specifically which test, which year and which variant was crashed. Those three questions separate a real answer from a brochure line.

The one we'd buy

Pure Plus petrol MT at ₹6,75,000. It's the step where the Aeris stops feeling like the advertised price and starts feeling like a car, it keeps all 419 litres, and from there both options are a known, flat price whenever you want them.

If your running is genuinely high, Pure Plus CNG at ₹7,75,000 is the same car on cheaper fuel with 192 litres less boot. Do the economy sum at the desk first.

Don't go to Accomplished CNG AMT at ₹9,75,000 without pricing a Dzire or an Amaze alongside it. At that money the segment opens up, and the Aeris's single advantage, the boot, is the thing you're giving back by adding the cylinders.
