Honda Amaze
Honda’s compact sedan, now in its third generation, with a 90 PS 1.2 petrol, a 416-litre boot and a choice of manual or CVT. It suits a small family that wants a proper three-box car with a smooth automatic, and it is the cheapest way to get Honda Sensing ADAS in India, at just under ₹10 lakh for the ZX CVT.

VX adds climate control, rear AC vents, the wireless charger, alloys and the LaneWatch camera for ₹1 lakh over V. That is where the Amaze feels finished. Take the manual at ₹8.65 lakh or the CVT at ₹9.40 lakh.

If you already want the CVT, ZX CVT at ₹9.99 lakh adds Honda Sensing ADAS for about ₹60,000 over VX CVT. Adaptive cruise and lane keeping are genuinely useful on highways.

Our verdict on the Amaze
The Amaze is a sensible, slightly old-fashioned buy, and we mean that kindly. The 1.2 petrol is smooth rather than quick, the CVT is far nicer in traffic than the AMTs most rivals use, and the 416-litre boot is generous. Six airbags come as standard. Against that, there is no turbo, no diesel and no factory CNG, and the cabin is not as feature-rich as a Dzire or Aura at similar money. The step from V to VX is the one to take. ZX is worth it mainly for ADAS on the CVT. If running cost is your main concern, a factory-CNG Dzire or Aura will cost less to run.
Good things
- CVT automatic from the base trim, smoother than the AMTs in most rivals
- Six airbags, stability control and rear sensors are standard
- ADAS with adaptive cruise for under ₹10 lakh on the ZX CVT
- 416-litre boot is among the largest in the segment
Could be better
- 90 PS and 110 Nm are adequate but feel stretched with a full load
- No factory CNG or diesel, only a dealer-fitted CNG retrofit
- Base V uses 14-inch steel wheels and manual AC
- Costs more than a Dzire or Aura trim for trim

Honda Amaze: a calm sedan with a proper automatic
The third-generation Amaze keeps the old car’s recipe: a sub-four-metre sedan with a big boot and a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol. Honda rates it at 90 PS and 110 Nm, and pairs it with a five-speed manual or a CVT. Claimed economy is 18.65 km/l for the manual and 19.46 km/l for the CVT. There is no diesel and no factory CNG.
There are three trims, V, VX and ZX, each with a manual or CVT. Prices run from ₹7.65 lakh to ₹9.99 lakh ex-showroom. Every version gets six airbags, stability control, LED projector headlamps and an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, so even the base car is not bare. The CVT adds ₹60,500 to ₹1.05 lakh depending on trim.
The Amaze’s unusual selling point is Honda Sensing on the ZX: adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, collision mitigation braking and auto high beam, in a car that costs less than ₹10 lakh. Few cars at this price offer adaptive cruise at all. It is the main reason to stretch to the ZX, and it works best with the CVT, where adaptive cruise can manage the speed in highway traffic for you.
Which variant should you buy?
VX. For ₹1 lakh over V it adds automatic climate control, rear AC vents, a wireless charger, push-button start, alloy wheels and the LaneWatch camera, which shows the left blind spot on the screen. V is fine if the budget is fixed, but it feels like a base car inside. ZX adds ADAS and cosmetic touches for about ₹60,000-74,000 more.
Manual or CVT?
The CVT costs ₹1.05 lakh more on V, ₹75,000 on VX and ₹60,500 on ZX. It is a proper continuously variable automatic, smooth in traffic, and it claims slightly better economy than the manual. If you drive mostly in the city, we would pay for it.
How does it compare with the Maruti Dzire?
The Dzire is cheaper, offers factory CNG and has a sunroof on top trims, but its automatic is an AMT. The Amaze has a bigger boot, a smoother CVT and ADAS on the ZX. Pick the Dzire for running cost, the Amaze for the automatic and highway safety aids.
Is it worth the price?
At VX it is fairly priced for what you get. The ZX CVT at ₹9.99 lakh is good value if you will use adaptive cruise. The base V manual is harder to justify over a better-equipped Dzire or Aura at similar money.
