Our verdict on the Verna
The Verna remains one of the most complete sedans at its price. The 2026 update adds the things buyers were asking for: a digital driver display, a built-in dashcam, a 360-degree camera and ADAS, while keeping the big 528-litre boot. The turbo is properly quick and the 1.5 IVT is smooth and easy in traffic. The catch is the price creep. The facelift costs noticeably more than the car it replaces, and the top HX10 Turbo is over ₹18 lakh, where a Skoda Slavia or VW Virtus turbo deserves a look for its driving feel. The rear seat is good but not as roomy as a Honda City's. Our view: the HX6 Plus is the sweet spot, and the HX8 Turbo manual is the enthusiast's buy. Skip the top trims unless you specifically want ADAS with an automatic.
Good things
- Strong 160 PS turbo, plus a smooth 1.5 with IVT for city use
- 528-litre boot, among the largest in the class
- Long equipment list including dashcam, 360 camera and Level 2 ADAS on top trims
- Ventilated seats and Bose audio available well below the top trim
Could be better
- Prices have gone up with the facelift; top trims cross ₹18 lakh
- ADAS is limited to the HX8 Turbo and HX10, and is not offered with the 1.5 manual
- Twelve variants plus dual-tone versions make the line-up confusing
- Claimed fuel economy for the facelift had not been published at the time of checking

Hyundai Verna: more kit, higher prices, same strong engines
The Verna was updated for 2026 and now uses HX trim names: HX2, HX4, HX6, HX6 Plus, HX8 and HX10. The engines are carried over. The 1.5-litre petrol makes 115 PS and pairs with a 6-speed manual or an IVT automatic. The 1.5 turbo makes 160 PS and 253 Nm and pairs with a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT.
The update brings a 10.25-inch digital driver display, a built-in dashcam, a 360-degree camera with blind-spot view, a powered passenger seat and Level 2 ADAS on the top trims. Hyundai's own list now runs to seven airbags including a centre airbag. The car is slightly longer at 4,565 mm, and the boot remains a generous 528 litres.
Prices run from ₹10.99 lakh for the HX2 to about ₹18.31 lakh for the HX10 Turbo DCT, ex-showroom, with dual-tone paint ₹15,000 extra where offered. The base HX2 comes only in white or black. The sunroof arrives at HX4, which makes that trim and the HX6 Plus the ones to look at first. Ask the dealer for the claimed mileage of the exact version you want.
Which variant should you buy?
The HX6 Plus gives you the sunroof, rear camera, LED projector headlamps, ventilated front seats and Bose audio. It is offered as a manual or IVT. The HX8 adds a bigger touchscreen and a powered driver's seat, which are nice but not essential. Go to the HX10 only if you want ADAS and the 360-degree camera with the 1.5 IVT.
1.5 petrol or turbo?
The 1.5 is enough for city driving and relaxed highway use, and the IVT makes it easy in traffic. The turbo is for people who enjoy driving and overtake often on two-lane roads. It also comes with ADAS. It costs about ₹1.4 lakh more than the equivalent HX8 1.5 manual.
Manual or automatic?
The IVT adds about ₹1.2 lakh on the 1.5 and is the smoother choice for daily commutes. On the turbo, the DCT adds about ₹1.3 lakh and shifts quickly, but dual-clutch gearboxes need sensible use in stop-go traffic. If you mostly drive in the city, the 1.5 IVT is the easier ownership choice.
How does it compare with the Honda City and Skoda Slavia?
The Verna has the most features and the biggest boot of the three. The City has a roomier rear seat and Honda's reputation for reliability, and offers a strong hybrid. The Slavia and its VW twin, the Virtus, feel more solid on the highway. If equipment and value per rupee lead your list, the Verna is the one to beat.
