Our verdict on the Venue
The Venue is a good car hidden behind a long, cluttered price list. With Knight editions and dual-tone paint counted, there are more than thirty versions, and the names do not read in order. Strip that away and the decision is simpler. The 1.2 petrol is the weak link: 83 PS is not much for a tall SUV carrying a family. The 1.0 turbo is the engine to have, and the HX5 turbo manual just under ₹10 lakh gets you the equipment most owners use. The diesel remains a real option for high mileage, which few rivals still offer. We would stop well short of the HX10, which at ₹14.7 to ₹15.6 lakh is in Creta territory.
Good things
- Six airbags, ESC and hill assist are standard across the range
- The 1.0 turbo makes 172 Nm and comes with a proper 7-speed DCT
- A diesel with a torque-converter automatic is still available
- Sunroof and cruise control arrive at HX5, below ₹10 lakh on the turbo
Could be better
- The 1.2 petrol makes 83 PS and feels stretched with a full load
- Too many versions, with Knight and dual-tone editions splitting most trims again
- ADAS and the 360-degree camera are kept for the HX10 only
- Top diesel automatic at ₹15.65 lakh overlaps with bigger SUVs

Hyundai Venue: pick the turbo, skip the top trim
The second-generation Venue keeps the formula that made the first one popular: a compact footprint under four metres, a choice of petrol and diesel, and plenty of equipment for the price. It is better equipped than before, with a 10.25-inch touchscreen and wireless phone mirroring even on the base HX2, six airbags across the range, a 375-litre boot and a 2,520 mm wheelbase.
There are three engines. The 1.2 petrol makes 83 PS and comes only with a manual. The 1.0 turbo petrol makes 120 PS and 172 Nm and is offered with a manual or a 7-speed DCT. The 1.5 diesel makes 250 Nm and pairs with a manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic, which is the smoother choice for heavy traffic. Claimed economy runs from 17.9 km/l to 20.99 km/l.
The trims run HX2, HX4, HX5, HX5+, HX6, HX6T, HX7, HX8 and HX10, but not every engine is offered with every trim, and Knight and dual-tone editions add more lines. Indicative ex-showroom prices run from about ₹8 lakh to ₹15.65 lakh, so it is worth fixing your engine first and then choosing a trim from the shorter list that remains.
Which variant should you buy?
For most buyers, the HX5 with the 1.0 turbo and manual gearbox at ₹9.93 lakh. It has the sunroof, cruise control, reverse camera, keyless start and remote engine start. If you want an automatic, the HX5 turbo DCT at ₹10.95 lakh is the cheapest one and the HX8 DCT adds ventilated seats and auto-hold.
1.2 petrol, 1.0 turbo or diesel?
The 1.2 is fine for light city use but has only 83 PS and 115 Nm. The turbo is about ₹38,000 more at HX5 and feels far more relaxed when loaded. Choose the diesel only if you drive well over 1,500 km a month; it costs about ₹1 lakh more than the turbo at the same trim.
Manual or automatic?
The turbo DCT costs about ₹1 lakh more than the turbo manual at HX5 and claims a slightly better 20 km/l. The diesel automatic is a conventional torque converter, which suits stop-start driving and tends to be easier to live with than a dual-clutch over many years.
Is the HX10 worth it?
Only if you specifically want ADAS, the 360-degree camera, the twin curved screens and the Bose audio. At ₹14.68 lakh for the turbo DCT and ₹15.65 lakh for the diesel, it costs as much as a larger SUV such as the Creta, which offers more space for the same money.
