Hyundai Creta
India’s benchmark mid-size SUV, with three 1.5-litre engines: a plain petrol, a turbo petrol and a diesel, each tied to its own gearboxes. Six airbags are standard from the ₹10.91 lakh base car, and the range climbs to just over ₹20 lakh. It suits most family buyers who want a well-rounded, easy-to-own SUV, as long as they pick the engine before the trim.

Our verdict on the Creta
The 1.5 petrol with the iVT is still the Creta most people should buy. It is smooth in traffic, simple to own, and it covers how these cars are actually used. The turbo is a narrow choice: it only comes on the top King trim and only with a DCT, so it is a ₹19.91 lakh decision, not an upgrade you add on. The diesel makes sense for heavy highway users. For 2026 Hyundai trimmed the range, and Level 2 ADAS is now King-only. If you want those driver aids, the King iVT is the car. If you do not, S(O) iVT gives you nearly everything you use daily for about ₹3 lakh less.
Good things
- Six airbags, TPMS and rear AC vents are standard from the base E
- Three distinct engines, each matched to sensible gearboxes
- Panoramic sunroof arrives as low as EX(O)
- Wide trim ladder, so there is usually a variant near your budget
Could be better
- Turbo petrol is King-only and DCT-only; no manual
- Level 2 ADAS now needs the top King trim, close to ₹18.69 lakh with the iVT
- Starting at ₹10.91 lakh, it costs more than the compact SUVs a rung below
- Knight, DT and limited editions make the price list harder to read than it should be

Hyundai Creta: pick the engine first, then the trim
The Creta offers three engines, and each decides your gearbox. The 1.5 MPi petrol comes with a six-speed manual or an iVT automatic. The 1.5 diesel comes with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic. The 160 PS 1.5 turbo petrol is sold only on the top King trim with a seven-speed DCT. Choose the engine and gearbox you want first, then find the trim that carries it.
For 2026 Hyundai cut the line-up to E, EX, EX(O), S(O), SX, SX Premium and King, plus blacked-out Knight Editions. Safety basics are generous: six airbags and tyre pressure monitoring are standard on the base E. The panoramic sunroof arrives at EX(O), the big LED lamps and alloys at S(O), the twin 10.25-inch screens at SX, and ventilated seats with Bose audio at SX Premium.
The change that matters most is ADAS. With SX Tech and SX(O) gone, Level 2 ADAS is now limited to King trims, which start at ₹17.28 lakh with the petrol manual. So driver aids now cost at least ₹17.28 lakh, or ₹18.69 lakh if you also want the iVT. Hyundai’s ex-showroom prices run from ₹10.91 lakh to ₹20.11 lakh, before the extra ₹15,000 for dual-tone paint.
Which variant should you buy?
If you want ADAS and an automatic, King with the petrol iVT at ₹18.69 lakh. If you can do without ADAS, S(O) iVT at ₹15.66 lakh has the equipment you will use every day: sunroof, LED lamps, alloys, auto climate control, cruise and auto hold. On a tighter budget, the EX(O) manual at ₹13.14 lakh already has the sunroof and wireless phone mirroring.
Petrol, turbo or diesel?
The 1.5 petrol suits most buyers and is the cheapest to buy. The diesel claims 21.8 km/l with the manual and makes sense if you cover long distances, but it costs about ₹1.6 lakh more at the same trim. The turbo is quick but only comes as a King DCT at ₹19.91 lakh, so choose it only if you want exactly that car.
Manual or automatic?
The petrol iVT costs about ₹1.35–1.45 lakh more than the manual at the same trim, and in Indian traffic it is worth it. The diesel automatic is a proper six-speed torque converter and costs ₹92,000–1.45 lakh over the diesel manual. Note that the automatics skip some trims, so the cheapest petrol automatic is EX(O).
Do you need the King trim?
Only if you want Level 2 ADAS, the turbo engine, or front seats with memory and power adjustment for the passenger. Otherwise SX Premium already brings ventilated seats, leather and Bose audio, and S(O) covers the essentials. King asks ₹90,000–94,000 over SX Premium for these extras.
