Toyota Land Cruiser
Toyota’s flagship full-size off-roader, imported from Japan with a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel, a 10-speed automatic and full-time four-wheel drive. It suits buyers who want a near-indestructible luxury SUV for long distances and rough terrain, and who value reliability and resale over the latest cabin technology.

Our verdict on the Land Cruiser
The Land Cruiser is bought for what it stands for: toughness, long life and strong resale. The V6 diesel is effortless, the 10-speed automatic is smooth, and the 4WD hardware can handle far more than most owners will ask of it. Inside it is comfortable and well equipped, though less flashy than a Range Rover at similar money, and the India-spec car seats only five. A price of more than ₹2 crore puts it out of reach for most. If you want this level of capability and do not mind an older-looking cabin, it is hard to fault; if you want luxury first, a Range Rover or Mercedes GLS will feel more special.
Good things
- Effortless 700 Nm V6 diesel with a 10-speed automatic
- Serious off-road hardware, with differential locks on the GR-S
- Toyota’s reputation for reliability and strong resale values
- Heated and ventilated seats front and rear
Could be better
- Only five seats in India, though a seven-seat version exists abroad
- More than ₹2 crore ex-showroom, before taxes and insurance
- Cabin technology trails European luxury SUVs at this price
- Large and heavy, so city parking and running costs are demanding

Toyota Land Cruiser: built to last, priced like a luxury car
The Land Cruiser 300 is the current generation of Toyota’s best-known off-roader. It is 4,985 mm long with a 2,850 mm wheelbase, and it is imported fully built from Japan. Unlike the overseas model, the India version is a five-seater, with a 40:20:40 split rear seat that reclines, heated and ventilated seats front and rear, and a 110-litre fuel tank.
Power comes from a 3,346 cc twin-turbo V6 diesel making 309 PS and 700 Nm, through a 10-speed automatic and a full-time four-wheel-drive system. The ZX gets adaptive variable suspension and a torque-sensing rear differential, while the GR-S adds front and rear differential locks, sportier bumpers and side steps for harder off-road use.
There are two variants, ZX and GR-S, with indicative ex-showroom prices of about ₹2.18 crore and ₹2.25 crore, down from ₹2.31 crore and ₹2.41 crore at launch. Both are imported, and both come in Precious White Pearl or Attitude Black, with a beige or black cabin on the ZX and black or dark red on the GR-S.
ZX or GR-S?
The ZX for most owners. It has the same engine and 4WD system and is better suited to long road journeys. The GR-S is about ₹7 lakh more and adds front and rear differential locks and sportier styling, which only matter if you plan proper off-road expeditions.
Is it worth the price?
It is expensive for the equipment, but Land Cruisers hold their value unusually well and are built to last decades. If you keep cars for a long time or drive in remote areas, that durability is worth paying for. If you change cars every few years, a European rival may offer more luxury for the money.
How does it compare with the Range Rover?
The Range Rover has a more luxurious cabin, more technology and a stronger brand image in cities. The Land Cruiser is simpler, tougher and more reliable over the long term, and its off-road hardware is designed for hard use rather than occasional trips.
Can it carry seven people?
No. The India-spec Land Cruiser 300 has five seats. If you need a third row in a Toyota, look at the Fortuner or the Vellfire for a very different kind of luxury.
