Our verdict on the Windsor EV
The Windsor is the most spacious EV we can find for under ₹20 lakh, and it is built around the back seat. The cabin is airy, the rear seats recline a long way and the boot is big. Standard safety is good, with 6 airbags, ESC and four disc brakes on every version. The trade-offs are real, though. The 136 PS motor is adequate rather than quick, the ride and handling are tuned for comfort, not for enthusiasts, and the 38 kWh battery gives a claimed 332 km, which means roughly 250 km in daily use. Level 2 ADAS is only on the most expensive version. If you want a sharper drive or a longer range at this price, look at the Tata Curvv EV or Hyundai Creta Electric. If you want space and comfort for the family, the Windsor is an easy recommendation.
Good things
- Very roomy rear seat with a long recline, rare in this price band
- Large boot for a car of this length
- 6 airbags, ESC, auto hold and four disc brakes are standard
- Pro versions bring a bigger battery and faster DC charging without a big jump in price
Could be better
- The 38 kWh battery limits real-world range to city and short highway use
- Modest 136 PS motor and a soft, comfort-first chassis
- ADAS only on the top Essence Pro
- The Exclusive Pro drops the glass roof and ventilated seats of the cheaper Essence

MG Windsor EV: a lounge on wheels for the price of a compact SUV
The Windsor EV is MG's answer to a simple question: what do Indian families want most from an electric car under ₹20 lakh? MG decided the answer was space. The car is only 4,295 mm long, yet it has a 2,700 mm wheelbase, a flat floor, and rear seats that recline up to 135 degrees. The upright, cab-forward shape looks unusual, but it frees up a lot of cabin room.
Every version uses the same 136 PS, 200 Nm front motor. The difference is the battery. Excite, Exclusive and Essence use a 38 kWh pack with a claimed 332 km and 45 kW DC charging. The Exclusive Pro and Essence Pro get a 52.9 kWh pack with a claimed 449 km and 60 kW DC charging. Claimed figures are measured on the MIDC cycle; expect around three-quarters of that in real use.
MG also sells the car under its battery-as-a-service plan, where you pay less upfront and rent the battery per kilometre. That can suit low-mileage buyers, but run the numbers over your expected ownership period before signing. The prices on this page are for the outright purchase, without battery rental.
Should I buy the 38 kWh or the 52.9 kWh Windsor?
If most of your driving is in the city and you can charge at home, the 38 kWh car is enough and saves money. If you take regular trips of 200 km or more, the Pro's bigger battery and faster DC charging make highway use much less stressful. The gap between the Essence and the Exclusive Pro is about ₹90,000.
Is the Windsor safe?
Every version gets 6 airbags, electronic stability control, hill hold, hill descent control, ISOFIX mounts and disc brakes all round. The Exclusive and above add a 360-degree camera. Level 2 ADAS, with adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking, is only on the Essence Pro.
How much boot space does it really have?
MG quotes 604 litres for the Excite and Exclusive, and 579 litres for the Essence and both Pro versions. Either way, it is far more than most rivals of this length, and the 60:40 split rear seat folds for longer items.
What are the alternatives?
The Tata Curvv EV and Hyundai Creta Electric are more conventional SUVs with sharper handling and longer claimed range at the top end. The Tata Nexon EV is cheaper and smaller. None of them match the Windsor's rear-seat space for the money.
