If the car will stay in the city and the budget is tight, the Excite gets the big touchscreen, wireless phone mirroring and reverse camera. Skip the FC versions unless you need faster home charging.

Our verdict on the Comet EV
The Comet is a sensible tool for a narrow job. As a second car for city errands or a short daily commute, it is very cheap to run, easy to park almost anywhere and well equipped from the Excite up. Its limits are just as clear. There is no DC fast charging, so long trips are impractical; the boot is tiny with all seats up; and stability control is only on the Exclusive versions. Real-world range will be well below the 230 km claim in summer traffic. Do not buy it as a family's only car. If you need more space or highway ability for similar money, the Tata Tiago EV is a more conventional choice.
Good things
- Very easy to park and turn in tight city streets
- Low running costs and a home wallbox included
- Well-equipped from the Excite, with a big touchscreen and connected features
- 8-year or 1.2 lakh km battery warranty
Could be better
- No DC fast charging, so long trips are impractical
- Very little luggage space with four people on board
- ESC and rear disc brakes only on the Exclusive versions
- Two doors make rear-seat access awkward

MG Comet EV: a small, simple city ev with a home charger included
The Comet is MG's smallest and cheapest car in India. It is 2,974 mm long and 1,505 mm wide, with two doors and four seats, and turns in a 4.2 m radius. A single electric motor gives 42 PS and 110 Nm through a single-speed automatic, which is enough for city speeds but leaves little in reserve on highways.
The battery is about 17.4 kWh and MG quotes 230 km on the ARAI test. Charging is AC only. The standard 3.3 kW wallbox, included and installed in the price, needs about seven hours for a full charge; the FC versions accept 7.4 kW and take about three and a half hours. There is no DC fast charging.
The Executive is basic, with a small digital cluster and fabric seats. The Excite adds a 10.25-inch touchscreen, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a reverse camera and LED lights. The Exclusive adds stability control, rear disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, leatherette seats and keyless start. The Blackstorm is an all-black version of the Exclusive. MG also sells the Comet with a battery-rental plan that lowers the upfront price.
Can the Comet handle highway trips?
Only short ones. The motor is small, there is no DC fast charging, and the claimed 230 km will drop with speed and air-conditioning. It is designed for city use; for regular intercity driving, pick a larger EV with DC charging.
Should I pay for an FC version?
Only if you have a 7.4 kW charger at home or work and often need a quick top-up. With the standard 3.3 kW wallbox, overnight charging is enough for most city users.
Is battery rental (BaaS) a good idea?
It lowers the upfront price but adds a per-kilometre charge. If you drive a lot, the rental can cost more than buying the battery outright over a few years. Work out your monthly distance before deciding.
How safe is it?
All versions have two front airbags and ABS with EBD. Stability control, hill hold and rear disc brakes are only on the Exclusive, Exclusive FC and Blackstorm, so we would buy one of those if you will drive on fast roads.
