Our verdict on the Seltos

The new Seltos is a clear step up from the old one: longer, roomier, with six airbags and stability control on every trim and a 160 PS turbo that is one of the strongest engines in the class. The diesel is still offered with both manual and automatic, which many rivals have dropped. The problem is the price ladder. Forty-four combinations run from ₹11 lakh to ₹21.82 lakh, and the top trims cost as much as larger SUVs. HTX has the equipment most buyers actually use. Above it you pay for ADAS, styling packs and convenience features. Kia has also not yet published claimed mileage for this generation, so ask the dealer for the homologated figure before you buy.

Kia Seltos: a better car with too many trims

The second-generation Seltos arrived in January 2026 and had a price revision on 1 July 2026. It now runs from about ₹11 lakh to ₹21.82 lakh ex-showroom. The body has grown to 4,460 mm long, 1,830 mm wide and 1,635 mm tall, on a 2,690 mm wheelbase, with 200 mm of ground clearance and a 447-litre boot. Rivals include the Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Tata Sierra and Skoda Kushaq.

Three engines are offered. The 1.5 petrol makes 115 PS and 144 Nm with a six-speed manual or IVT. The 1.5 turbo petrol makes 160 PS and 253 Nm with a six-speed iMT (a clutchless manual) or a seven-speed DCT. The 1.5 diesel makes 116 PS and 250 Nm with a six-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic.

Six airbags, stability control, a 10.25-inch touchscreen with wireless phone mirroring and cruise control are standard. HTK adds alloys and a smart key, HTK (O) adds the panoramic sunroof and wireless charger, and HTX adds the 12.3-inch screen, ventilated seats, Bose audio and dual-zone climate. The (A) trims add Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera, and the (O) trims add a head-up display, dashcams and the fuller Level 2+ ADAS suite.

Which variant should you buy?

HTX. The petrol manual at ₹15,91,900 has ventilated seats, the larger screen, Bose audio, dual-zone climate, the sunroof and a wireless charger. HTX (A) adds ADAS and a 360-degree camera for about ₹1.1 lakh, which is worth it if you do a lot of highway driving. Above that, GTX and X-Line are mostly styling and seat memory, and the (O) trims cost close to ₹22 lakh.

Petrol, turbo petrol or diesel?

The 115 PS petrol is fine for city use and is the cheapest to buy. The turbo is the one to have if you drive on highways or carry a full load, and it costs about ₹80,000 more than the equivalent non-turbo manual. The diesel is the choice for high annual mileage and long trips, but it carries a premium of roughly ₹1.5–2 lakh over the base petrol at each trim.

Manual or automatic?

There are four automatic options: IVT with the 1.5 petrol, DCT with the turbo, and a torque converter with the diesel. The IVT is smooth and relaxed in town. The DCT is quicker but less suited to crawling traffic. The diesel automatic is the most relaxed long-distance option. The turbo iMT removes the clutch pedal but is still a manual gearbox, so try it before you choose it over the DCT.

How does it compare with the Hyundai Creta?

They share engines and much of their engineering, so the decision comes down to equipment, price and design. The new Seltos is the newer and larger car, with a bigger boot. The Creta has a broader service network and stronger resale. Compare the exact trims you are considering, since both brands spread features across many variants.
