MG M9
A large electric luxury MPV with seven seats, sliding doors and powered middle-row seats that recline with leg rests and massage. A 90 kWh battery gives a claimed 548 km. It suits buyers who will be driven rather than drive, and want limousine-style rear comfort without the price of a Toyota Vellfire.

Our verdict on the M9
The M9 offers something few cars in India do: a chauffeur-friendly electric MPV with genuinely luxurious middle-row seats. Against the Toyota Vellfire it costs much less and comes with a large battery and long claimed range, and against the Kia Carnival it feels far more upmarket inside. The trade-offs are real. MG Select has a small dealer network, so check service reach in your city before buying, and resale values for a large luxury EV from a newer luxury channel are hard to predict. Its single front motor is adequate for a 2.5-tonne van but not quick. If you are mostly driven in one large city with reliable charging, it makes a strong case. If you travel between cities often, plan routes around fast chargers.
Good things
- Middle-row seats rival far costlier limousine MPVs
- Large 90 kWh battery and 548 km claimed range
- Very spacious, with a 3,200 mm wheelbase
- Well equipped, including 7 airbags and Level 2 ADAS
Could be better
- Small MG Select dealer and service network
- Unproven resale value
- Single motor feels adequate rather than quick in a heavy van
- Its large size makes city parking difficult
MG M9 colours and photos
- Pearl Lustre White with black roof
- Concrete Grey with black roof

MG M9: an electric limousine for those who sit in the back
The M9 is MG's flagship electric MPV for India, sold through the separate MG Select luxury showrooms. It is 5,270 mm long and 2,000 mm wide with a 3,200 mm wheelbase, and seats seven. The focus is on the middle row, where two powered 'Presidential' seats recline fully, extend a leg rest, slide inwards, and offer heating, ventilation and massage.
A single front motor makes 245 PS and 350 Nm, and MG's manual quotes 0-100 km/h in 8.9 seconds. The 90 kWh battery gives a claimed 548 km on the MIDC cycle. MG says an 11 kW AC charger takes about 10 hours for a full charge, and quotes about 90 minutes on a 160 kW DC fast charger.
Equipment includes electric sliding doors, front and rear sunroofs, a 13-speaker JBL system, a 360-degree camera, 7 airbags and Level 2 driver aids such as blind-spot detection and lane keep assist. The third row slides, and folding it gives up to 1,720 litres of space; there is also a 55-litre front boot. A Couture Edition with a designer finish is sold in limited numbers.
How does the M9 compare with the Toyota Vellfire?
The Vellfire is a hybrid with a long reputation for reliability and strong resale, but costs far more. The M9 matches it for rear-seat comfort features and adds zero tailpipe emissions and lower running costs, but MG Select's network is much smaller.
Is the range enough for intercity trips?
For shorter intercity runs, yes. But a large, heavy van loses range at highway speeds and with the air-conditioning working hard, so expect noticeably less than the 548 km claim and plan a fast-charging stop on longer journeys.
Can I drive it myself, or is it a chauffeur car?
It is easy to drive, with light controls and plenty of driver aids, but it is very long. The car really comes alive from the middle row, so it makes most sense for owners who use a driver.
Is the Couture Edition worth it?
Only if you want the exclusive look. It costs about ₹5 lakh more for paint and badges, with no change to equipment or performance.
