Our verdict on the Invicto

The Invicto is a HyCross hybrid with a Maruti badge, and that is its appeal. The 2.0 strong hybrid is smooth, quiet in town and claims 23.24 km/l, which is remarkable for a car this large. The cabin is roomy across all three rows, and the e-CVT suits relaxed family driving. The catch is choice. There are only three variants, no petrol-only version to bring the price down, and the top Alpha+ misses some of the equipment found on the top HyCross. It also costs much the same as the equivalent Toyota. Buy the Invicto if you get a better deal or quicker delivery from your Nexa dealer, or prefer Maruti’s service network. Otherwise, check what the HyCross offers at the same money.

Good things

  • Strong hybrid with a claimed 23.24 km/l in a large seven- or eight-seater
  • Spacious cabin with usable third row
  • Simple three-variant range, all hybrid automatic
  • Six airbags and rear AC as standard

Could be better

  • From about ₹25 lakh: no cheaper petrol-only version
  • Fewer top-end features than the equivalent HyCross
  • Small boot with all three rows in use
  • Pricing overlaps almost entirely with the Toyota it is based on

Maruti Suzuki Invicto: the HyCross hybrid with a Nexa badge

The Invicto is Maruti Suzuki’s flagship MPV, built by Toyota and based on the Innova HyCross. It is sold through Nexa showrooms in three variants, Zeta+ seven-seater, Zeta+ eight-seater and Alpha+ seven-seater, with prices from about ₹25 lakh to ₹28.71 lakh ex-showroom. Maruti sells it alongside the smaller Ertiga and XL6 as its largest people carrier.

Every Invicto uses the 2.0 strong-hybrid petrol with an e-CVT. It can drive short distances on electric power alone and claims 23.24 km/l. There is no petrol-only version, unlike the HyCross. The e-CVT has no fixed gears, so it is smooth in traffic, and regenerative braking helps recharge the hybrid battery when slowing down. Paddle shifters let you adjust the level of engine braking.

The car is 4,755 mm long with a 2,850 mm wheelbase, so all three rows are usable. Six airbags, rear AC and a tyre-pressure monitor come on every version. The Alpha+ adds a panoramic sunroof, a powered tailgate and a 360-degree camera. Five colours are offered: Mystic White, Majestic Silver, Magnificent Black, Stellar Bronze and Nexa Blue Celestial.

Which variant should you buy?

The Zeta+ seven-seater for most families. It has the same hybrid drivetrain and safety kit as the top car. Choose the eight-seater only if you regularly carry eight. The Alpha+ adds comfort and convenience features for about ₹3.7 lakh more.

Invicto or Innova HyCross?

They share the body, hybrid engine and gearbox. The HyCross offers a cheaper petrol-only version and more features at the very top, while the Invicto is limited to three hybrid variants. Compare like-for-like quotes; pick whichever gives the better price, delivery time and service access.

Is the hybrid worth it?

For a large MPV, yes. A claimed 23.24 km/l is far better than conventional petrol MPVs, and the hybrid is quieter and smoother in traffic. If you drive a lot in the city, the fuel saving is significant over the years.
