Our verdict on the Alto K10

The Alto K10 is a car for a tight budget, and it now does the most important thing properly: six airbags and ESP are standard on the ₹3.70 lakh base car. The 1.0 engine is lively for its size and very efficient, and the CNG makes it extremely cheap to run. The limits are size and refinement. It is narrow at 1,490 mm, four adults will be cramped, and the ride and cabin feel basic. For most buyers the VXi (O) is the right point. If your budget stretches past ₹5 lakh, look at the S-Presso or a used bigger hatchback before buying the top Alto.

Maruti Suzuki Alto K10: basic car, complete safety kit

The Alto K10 is Maruti’s smallest and cheapest car. It uses the 998 cc K-series petrol with about 67 PS and 89 Nm, paired with a five-speed manual or an AGS automatic. A factory-fitted S-CNG version is also sold. Maruti claims 24.39 km/l for the manual, 24.9 km/l for the AGS and about 33.4 km/kg on CNG.

Every variant now carries an (O) suffix and comes with six airbags, ESP, ABS with EBD and rear parking sensors. That makes the price ladder about comfort only. STD (O) is truly basic, LXi (O) adds air conditioning and power steering, VXi (O) adds power windows, central locking and audio, and VXi+ (O) adds a 7-inch touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

As of October 2026, ex-showroom prices run from ₹3.70 lakh to ₹5.45 lakh. The car is 3,530 mm long and 1,490 mm wide, with a 214-litre boot and a 27-litre tank. It is a city car first: easy to park and light to drive. On the highway it works, but it is noisy and feels light, and the rear seat is best for two adults.

Which variant should you buy?

VXi (O). It is the first version with power windows and central locking, and since the safety kit is the same on every Alto K10 you are not giving anything up. Skip STD (O) unless the budget is absolute, because it has no AC or power steering. VXi+ (O) is worth it only if you want the touchscreen.

Petrol or CNG?

CNG costs ₹82,000–84,500 more than the matching petrol version but runs much cheaper per kilometre. If you drive more than about 1,000 km a month in a city with easy CNG access, it pays back. You lose some boot space and power, and CNG is not offered with the AMT or the top VXi+ (O).

Manual or AMT?

The AGS automatic costs ₹45,000 more and Maruti actually claims slightly better efficiency for it. For daily city traffic it is worth it. It is a basic automated manual, so shifts are slow and you will feel a pause, but it removes the clutch work.
