Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Maruti’s premium hatchback, updated in September 2026 with the Swift’s 1.2 three-cylinder engine, better claimed economy and Level 2 ADAS on the new Alpha (O). It suits families who want a roomy, frugal hatchback with six airbags as standard and features such as a head-up display and 360-degree camera that are rare at this price.

- CNG claims 33.61 km/kg on Delta and Zeta
- Level 2 ADAS on Alpha (O) for ₹9.50 lakh
- AMT costs ₹50,000 extra at every trim
- Zeta₹8.00 lakh
The petrol manual Zeta at ₹8 lakh brings the 9-inch screen, rear camera, climate control, wireless charger and alloys. It is where the Baleno stops feeling basic, without the ₹1.10 lakh comfort premium above it.
- Alpha (O)₹9.50 lakh
If your budget reaches Alpha at all, spend ₹40,000 more for Alpha (O) at ₹9.50 lakh (manual) and get Level 2 ADAS. Stopping at Alpha is the one poor choice in this range.

Our verdict on the Baleno
Zeta is the sensible Baleno, and if you are looking at Alpha, skip it and take Alpha (O). Zeta at ₹8 lakh has everything most buyers use. Alpha costs ₹1.10 lakh more for ventilated seats, a head-up display and a 360-degree camera, but the next step to Alpha (O) adds Level 2 ADAS for only ₹40,000. The new three-cylinder engine is more frugal than the old four-cylinder, though slightly less smooth and a little down on power. The AMT is a flat ₹50,000 and claims better economy than the manual. CNG is limited to Delta and Zeta, so a CNG buyer cannot have the top features.
Good things
- The ADAS step costs ₹40,000, a fraction of what the comfort steps below it cost
- The AMT is a flat ₹50,000 at every trim and claims better economy than the manual
- Six airbags and ESP from the base Sigma upward
- Head-up display, 360-degree camera and ventilated seats are rare at this price
Could be better
- Steep ₹1 lakh steps between Sigma, Delta, Zeta and Alpha
- Sigma is bare enough that the real entry price is ₹7 lakh
- CNG only on Delta and Zeta, so CNG buyers miss the top features
- New three-cylinder engine is down on power against the old four-cylinder

Maruti Suzuki Baleno: the frugal hatchback that added ADAS
The Baleno is Maruti’s premium hatchback, sold through Nexa. The September 2026 facelift swapped the old four-cylinder K12N for the 1.2-litre three-cylinder Z12E from the Swift and Dzire. It makes about 83 PS and 112 Nm, with a five-speed manual or AMT. Claimed economy rose to 23.80 km/l for the manual and 24.77 km/l for the AMT.
There are five trims: Sigma, Delta, Zeta, Alpha and the new Alpha (O). Prices run from ₹5.99 lakh to ₹9.99 lakh ex-showroom. Factory CNG is offered on Delta and Zeta only, with a manual gearbox, and claims 33.61 km/kg. The automatic is a flat ₹50,000 extra at every trim, and CNG costs ₹92,500 more than the equivalent petrol manual.
Every Baleno has six airbags, ESP and hill hold. Delta adds the touchscreen and rear AC vents, Zeta the bigger screen, camera and climate control, Alpha the head-up display, 360-degree camera and ventilated seats, and Alpha (O) Level 2 ADAS. Most of the useful equipment arrives by Zeta, so the steps above it are about comfort and gadgets rather than essentials.
Which variant should you buy?
Zeta for most buyers: rear camera, 9-inch screen, climate control, wireless charger, LED projectors and alloys at ₹8 lakh. If you are spending over ₹9 lakh, go to Alpha (O) for ADAS rather than Alpha. Sigma is too bare for most families.
Petrol or CNG?
CNG costs ₹92,500 more than the petrol at Delta and Zeta and claims 33.61 km/kg. It suits heavy city use. It is manual only, power drops to about 70 hp and boot space shrinks because of the cylinder. For mixed driving, the new petrol is already frugal.
Manual or AMT?
The AMT is ₹50,000 more at every trim and Maruti claims it is more economical than the manual. It pauses on upshifts but is easy to live with in traffic. If you want two pedals at this price, it is a fair deal.
How does it compare with the Toyota Glanza?
The Glanza is a rebadged Baleno built by Maruti and sold by Toyota. Toyota is due to launch the facelifted Glanza in mid-October 2026. Compare equivalent trims, on-road quotes and warranty terms, and pick the dealer that offers the better deal and service.
