Kia Carnival
Kia's full-size luxury MPV, sold in one fully loaded Limousine Plus version with powered, reclining second-row captain seats and electric sliding doors. At over 5.1 metres long, it is built for chauffeur-driven owners and large families who want van-like space without paying Toyota Vellfire money.

Our verdict on the Carnival
The Carnival makes a strong case for itself if you are driven rather than driving. The second-row seats recline with leg rests, both are ventilated and heated, and the sliding doors make getting in easy in tight spaces. Kia has loaded it with everything, including ADAS, eight airbags and a head-up display, so there are no options to agonise over. The catches are size and fuel. At 5.15 metres it is hard to park in older city buildings, and a large diesel MPV will not be cheap to run in traffic. It is still the sensible alternative to a Toyota Vellfire, which costs roughly double. If you need seven seats but not limousine comfort, a top Toyota Innova HyCross does most of the job for far less money.
Good things
- Exceptionally comfortable, powered second-row captain seats
- Electric sliding doors and a huge, airy cabin
- Fully loaded with ADAS, 8 airbags and a head-up display
- Roughly half the price of a Toyota Vellfire
Could be better
- Over 5.1 metres long, so parking and city use need care
- Diesel-only, with real-world economy well below the claim in traffic
- Paint choice is limited to white or black
- Still a big outlay for what is, at heart, a people carrier

Kia Carnival: a business-class lounge on wheels
The Carnival is the largest Kia sold in India: 5,155 mm long, 1,995 mm wide, with a 3,090 mm wheelbase. India gets a single Limousine Plus version with a 2+2+3 layout. The middle row has two powered captain seats with recline, leg support, heating and ventilation, and both rear doors slide electrically. The third row splits 60:40 and folds into the floor, leaving a deep boot even with all seats in use.
Power comes from a 2.2-litre turbo diesel with 193 PS and 441 Nm, driving the front wheels through an 8-speed automatic. The claimed figure is 14.85 km/l; in city traffic, owners and testers report far less. The 72-litre tank gives a long highway range, which suits the Carnival's role as an intercity family or business car.
Equipment is extensive. There are eight airbags, Level 2 ADAS with adaptive cruise and lane assist, a 360-degree camera, twin 12.3-inch screens, a head-up display, three-zone climate control, a 12-speaker Bose system and twin sunroofs. Running costs are higher than a mid-size SUV's, but Kia's service network is wide and the warranty is three years with unlimited kilometres.
Carnival or Toyota Vellfire?
The Vellfire is a petrol hybrid with a quieter, more polished cabin and stronger resale, but it costs roughly twice as much. The Carnival gives you most of the rear-seat comfort, more boot space and a diesel that suits highway use, for about ₹60 lakh. For most buyers who are not chasing the badge, the Carnival is the better value.
Is it practical as a self-driven family car?
Yes on highways, less so in town. It is easy to drive thanks to the automatic and cameras, but its length and width make tight lanes and old parking ramps difficult. If you will drive it yourself mostly in the city, a Toyota Innova HyCross or Kia Carens Clavis is easier to live with.
What will it cost to run?
Expect diesel bills well above the 14.85 km/l claim in city traffic, plus larger tyres and higher insurance than a mid-size SUV. Servicing is through Kia's regular dealer network, which is far wider than most luxury brands, and the standard warranty runs for three years with unlimited kilometres.
Is there an electric or hybrid option?
Not from Kia in India at present. If you want an electric luxury MPV, the MG M9 is the alternative to compare, though its service network is smaller.
