Kia EV9
Kia's flagship three-row electric SUV, imported fully built and sold in one six-seat GT-Line AWD version. It pairs a 99.8 kWh battery with two motors and a lounge-like cabin. It suits buyers spending luxury-SUV money who want space for six and a long equipment list more than a premium badge.

Our verdict on the EV9
The EV9 is a big, comfortable and very well-equipped electric SUV, and it does something few EVs in India do: carry six adults in comfort. The second-row captain chairs are excellent, performance is strong, and charging on a high-power DC charger is quick. The problem is the price. At about ₹1.30 crore, it competes with electric SUVs from BMW and Mercedes-Benz, which offer stronger brand appeal and, so far, better resale. Kia's mainstream service network is a plus, but specialist EV repairs on a fully imported car may take time. Buy it if you need three rows, can charge at home and value features over badge. If you mainly need rear-seat luxury, the diesel Kia Carnival costs less than half as much.
Good things
- Spacious six-seat cabin with excellent second-row captain chairs
- Strong dual-motor performance and all-wheel drive
- Fully loaded: ADAS, 10 airbags, Meridian audio, head-up display
- Quick charging on high-power DC chargers
Could be better
- Priced against established luxury brands at about ₹1.30 crore
- Fully imported, so parts and repairs may take longer
- Boot is modest at 333 litres with all three rows in use
- Large footprint is awkward in tight city parking

Kia EV9: a six-seat electric lounge at luxury prices
The EV9 is Kia's largest car: 5,015 mm long, 1,980 mm wide and with a 3,100 mm wheelbase. India gets it fully imported in a single GT-Line AWD version with six seats. The second row has two powered captain chairs with massage, heating, ventilation and leg support, and the third row reclines electrically and splits 50:50.
Two motors produce 384 PS and 700 Nm, and Kia claims 0-100 km/h in 5.3 seconds. The 99.8 kWh battery is certified for 561 km; real-world range will be lower, especially loaded and at highway speeds. On a 350 kW DC charger, 10 to 80% takes about 24 minutes. Kia quotes 333 litres of boot behind the third row, plus a 52-litre front boot.
Equipment is extensive: 10 airbags, Level 2 ADAS, three-zone climate control, a head-up display, a 14-speaker Meridian sound system, a digital rear-view mirror, digital key and vehicle-to-load power. There are no options to choose beyond the paint shade, which keeps buying simple. The only real decision is whether the price makes sense against luxury-brand rivals.
EV9 or a luxury-brand electric SUV?
German electric SUVs at this price offer stronger badge value and resale, and dealers more used to luxury buyers. The EV9 counters with a genuine third row, more standard equipment and Kia's wider service network. If you need six real seats, the EV9 is one of very few electric options.
Is it practical as a family car in Indian cities?
It is very comfortable but very large. Parking in older buildings and narrow lanes takes care, and 198 mm of ground clearance is fine for speed breakers. Home charging is essential; a big battery takes many hours on a regular wallbox.
EV9 or Kia Carnival?
The Carnival offers similar second-row luxury, sliding doors and a bigger boot for less than half the price, but it is a diesel MPV with slower performance. Choose the EV9 if you want an electric SUV with all-wheel drive; choose the Carnival if the rear seat is all that matters.
What about long-term costs?
Running costs per km are low if you charge at home. Insurance on a ₹1.30 crore car is substantial, so ask the dealer for the battery and extended-warranty terms in writing. Resale for large imported EVs in India is still uncertain, so plan to keep it for several years.
