Our verdict on the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680
The SL 680 is a statement car. It takes the SL roadster's V8, all-wheel drive and active chassis and adds Maybach details: an illuminated grille, a patterned bonnet, forged wheels and a richer cabin. It is fast, at 4.1 seconds to 100 km/h, and well equipped for an open two-seater. But ₹4.40 crore is a lot for a car with two seats and a 240-litre boot, and only two paint choices are listed. The AMG GT 63 Coupé uses the same engine for ₹3.05 crore and is quicker. Buy the SL 680 if its look is what you want; it makes little sense on value.

The Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series is based on the current SL roadster. It uses a 4.0-litre V8 turbo petrol with 585 HP and 800 Nm, all-wheel drive and a 9-speed SPEEDSHIFT MCT gearbox. Mercedes quotes 0-100 km/h in 4.1 seconds and a 260 km/h top speed. India gets it as a two-seater in one fully equipped specification.
Standard equipment includes an illuminated radiator grille with Maybach lettering, the Maybach pattern on the bonnet, 21-inch forged wheels, DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps, ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL suspension, rear-axle steering, AIRSCARF neck heating, ventilated multicontour seats, a head-up display, Burmester high-end 3D sound and a 360-degree camera. The car is 4,697 mm long with a 240-litre boot.
It costs ₹4.40 crore ex-showroom. Mercedes-Benz India lists two paints: MANUFAKTUR Garnet Red Metallic and MANUFAKTUR Opalite White Magno. It does not publish fuel-economy or ground clearance figures. Running costs will be high, as with any V8 luxury car. Rivals are few at this price, and most buyers will treat it as an occasional car.
