Mercedes-Benz C-Class

Our verdict on the C-Class

The C-Class is a well-rounded compact luxury sedan, and Mercedes-Benz India gives even the C 200 a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats and memory seats. The C 220d is the sensible pick: much more torque for under a lakh extra. The C 300 is the enthusiast's choice and the best equipped, with AMG Line styling and more driver aids. The weak point is rear space. India's buyers increasingly want long-wheelbase saloons, and a regular C-Class is tighter in the back than some rivals' stretched versions. If you will be driven more than you drive, look at the E-Class LWB or a long-wheelbase rival. If you drive yourself, the C-Class is easy to recommend.

Good things

  • Rich standard equipment from the base C 200
  • Diesel offers 440 Nm for a small premium
  • C 300 is quick and well specified
  • Wide service network

Could be better

  • Rear seat is tighter than long-wheelbase rivals
  • Diesel has a small 40-litre tank per the configurator
  • Paint choice depends on version
  • High service and parts costs

Mercedes-Benz C-Class: a driver's saloon with the kit already in

The current C-Class is a 4,751 mm rear-wheel-drive saloon with a 2,865 mm wheelbase. Mercedes-Benz India sells three engines: the C 200 with a 1.5 petrol (204 HP, 300 Nm), the C 220d with a 2.0 diesel (200 HP, 440 Nm) and the C 300 with a 2.0 petrol (258 HP, 400 Nm). Each has a 48-volt mild-hybrid system that adds a short electric boost, and each uses a nine-speed automatic.

The C 200 is not a stripped base car. It has a panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, ventilated and powered front seats with memory, an 11.9-inch central touchscreen, wireless phone charging and rear door sunblinds. The C 300 moves to AMG Line styling with the Night Package, 18-inch AMG wheels, Blind Spot Assist, keyless entry and a hands-free boot. Ex-showroom prices run from ₹61.2 lakh to ₹67 lakh as listed by Mercedes-Benz India in October 2026. The diesel sits just ₹80,000 above the C 200, which makes it the value pick in the range.

Is the C-Class roomy enough for a chauffeur-driven owner?

It is a standard-wheelbase car, so rear legroom is adequate rather than generous. Owners who will mostly sit in the back should test the rear seat, and compare it with the E-Class LWB or a long-wheelbase rival before buying.

Which engine suits Indian driving best?

The C 220d. Its 440 Nm of torque makes overtaking easy, and diesel suits long highway runs. The C 200 is smooth and fine for city use. The C 300 is the quickest, but it costs ₹5 lakh more than the C 200.

What does the C 300 add for the extra money?

AMG Line exterior and interior styling, the Night Package, 18-inch AMG wheels, Blind Spot Assist, keyless entry with a hands-free boot, a larger central display, premium sound and a 66-litre tank. It also has the strongest petrol engine in the range.

Does Mercedes-Benz publish the C-Class mileage?

No ARAI fuel economy figure is published by Mercedes-Benz India, so we do not quote one. The mild-hybrid system helps in traffic, but expect real-world economy to depend heavily on how and where you drive.
