Our verdict on the CLA
The electric CLA is a strong case for a Mercedes EV at under ₹65 lakh ex-showroom. The CLA 250+ AMG Line is the one to buy: a large 85 kWh battery, 792 km of claimed WLTP range, 800-volt charging at up to 320 kW and 272 HP, for ₹4 lakh over the base car. The CLA 200 is fine for city owners with home charging. The Launch Edition adds a passenger screen, leather, 19-inch wheels and more convenience kit for another ₹3.5 lakh, which we would skip. Remember that WLTP figures run higher than real-world Indian range, that 320 kW chargers are still rare in India, and that resale values of luxury EVs are less predictable than petrol and diesel cars.

Mercedes-Benz CLA: a long-range electric Mercedes under ₹65 lakh
The new CLA arrived in India in 2026 as an electric car only. It is a 4,723 mm four-door with a 2,790 mm wheelbase, a 405-litre rear boot and a 101-litre front boot. A single motor drives the rear wheels: 224 HP in the CLA 200 with a 58 kWh usable battery, and 272 HP in the CLA 250+ with an 85 kWh battery. Both have 335 Nm.
Mercedes-Benz India claims 542 km on the WLTP cycle for the CLA 200; Autocar India and Rushlane report 792 km WLTP for the CLA 250+. The 250+ also charges faster, at up to 320 kW DC on its 800-volt system, against 200 kW for the CLA 200. Standard equipment includes a panoramic roof, MULTIBEAM LED headlamps, heat pump, 360-degree camera, Blind Spot Assist and heated front seats. Ex-showroom prices are ₹56.5 lakh, ₹60.5 lakh and ₹64 lakh for the CLA 200 Progressive Line, CLA 250+ AMG Line and CLA 250+ Launch Edition, as listed in October 2026.
How far will the CLA really go on a charge?
Claimed WLTP figures are 542 km for the CLA 200 and 792 km for the CLA 250+. Real-world range in Indian heat, traffic and highway speeds will be lower. Plan with a healthy margin, especially on long trips.
Can I use the 320 kW fast charging in India?
Only at the few chargers that can supply that much power to an 800-volt car. Most public DC chargers in India deliver far less, so charging will often be slower than the maximum. Home charging remains the most practical option.
Is the CLA roomy enough for a family?
It seats five, with a 405-litre boot and a separate 101-litre front boot. The sloping roof cuts rear headroom for tall adults, so try the back seat before buying if you often carry adults there.
Should I pay extra for the Launch Edition?
We would not. It adds a passenger display, leather upholstery, 19-inch wheels, the Night Package and more convenience features for ₹3.5 lakh over the CLA 250+ AMG Line, but the battery, motor and range are the same.
