Our verdict on the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV
The Maybach EQS SUV is the most relaxing way to be driven in a Mercedes SUV: silent, smooth and very quick when needed. The rear seats recline, massage and have their own screens, and automatic doors add a sense of occasion. It costs ₹35 lakh less than the petrol Maybach GLS 600. The catch is charging and range. Mercedes India does not publish a range figure, and a 3-tonne SUV will not match smaller EVs on efficiency, so plan for a home or office charger and use public 200 kW chargers on trips. Only four seats and a 440-litre boot limit family use. For long highway trips beyond the charging network, the Maybach GLS 600 is the easier choice. The BMW i7 is the closest electric alternative, as a limousine.

Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV: a silent maybach for the back seat
The Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 SUV is based on the EQS SUV and has electric all-wheel drive. It makes 658 HP and 955 Nm, does 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and is limited to 210 km/h. The battery holds 118 kWh of usable energy and charges at up to 200 kW DC (10-80% in 31 minutes) or 22 kW AC (0-100% in 6.25 hours).
It seats four. The rear has executive seats with calf massage, heating and ventilation, MBUX rear-seat entertainment and a rear tablet. Up front is the MBUX Hyperscreen. Standard equipment also includes Burmester 4D sound, DIGITAL LIGHT, rear-axle steering with up to 10 degrees, AIRMATIC suspension and automatic comfort doors. The car is 5,125 mm long with a 440-litre boot.
The EQS 680 costs ₹2.40 crore and the Night Series ₹2.65 crore, ex-showroom. Mercedes-Benz India does not publish range or ground clearance figures for it, so ask the dealer for a realistic highway range before you buy. Electricity costs per kilometre will be far lower than for the V8 Maybach GLS, and there is no engine oil to change.
How far will it go on a charge?
Mercedes-Benz India does not publish a range figure, and other sources disagree, so we do not quote one. Plan on charging at home every night and using 200 kW DC chargers on highway trips.
Maybach EQS SUV or Maybach GLS 600?
The EQS SUV is quieter, quicker and ₹35 lakh cheaper, but has four seats and depends on charging. The GLS 600 has a V8, a bigger boot and no range worries. Choose based on how far you travel.
Is the Night Series worth ₹25 lakh more?
Only for its look. It adds 21-inch 7-spoke wheels, Pearl Black leather, dark walnut trim, a rear fridge and a black Alcantara roof liner. Performance and battery are the same.
