Range Rover
The full-size Range Rover is Land Rover’s flagship luxury SUV. India gets it in long-wheelbase form only on the published price list, with two locally assembled versions and an imported V8 SV. It suits buyers who want a chauffeur-friendly rear seat, real off-road ability and a quiet, comfortable cabin, and who accept a ₹2.4 crore-plus price and high running costs.

The diesel is the one we would buy. It has the torque for highway cruising, better economy than the petrols, and already includes massage seats, a head-up display and rear comfort seats, at ₹25 lakh less than the Autobiography.
- Autobiography LWB₹2.65 crore
Worth it if you want the petrol engine’s smoothness and the extra cabin kit, such as the sliding panoramic roof and Meridian Signature sound. Skip the SV unless the V8 and bespoke trim truly matter.

Our verdict on the Range Rover
The Range Rover remains the reference for a luxury SUV that also works off the road. In India, the long-wheelbase body makes it a genuine chauffeur car, and local assembly of the HSE and Autobiography has brought the price down to ₹2.40 crore and ₹2.65 crore ex-showroom. The diesel HSE is the sensible choice, with strong torque and a well-stocked cabin. The SV at ₹3.50 crore adds a 615 PS V8 and bespoke materials, but much of that money buys exclusivity rather than comfort. Expect high insurance, tyre and service bills, and check your dealer’s parts stock and loan-car policy, as electronics issues can mean workshop visits. If you want similar rear-seat luxury with a wider service network, look at the Mercedes-Benz GLS or Maybach GLS before deciding.
Good things
- Long-wheelbase cabin with excellent rear comfort and a quiet ride
- Real off-road ability with air suspension, low range and 900 mm wading depth
- Local assembly has made the HSE and Autobiography far cheaper than imports
- Strong 700 Nm diesel suits Indian highway driving
Could be better
- Very expensive to buy, insure and maintain
- Fuel economy and tank size are not published by Land Rover India
- Complex electronics; reliability and workshop time are a known concern
- SV costs ₹85 lakh more than the Autobiography for mostly cosmetic gains

Range Rover: luxury on the road, real ability off it
This is the fifth-generation Range Rover, Land Rover’s biggest and most expensive model. On the July 2026 India price list it is sold only as a long-wheelbase SUV, 5,252 mm long with a 3,197 mm wheelbase. The HSE diesel and Autobiography petrol are assembled in India, which is why they cost much less than the earlier imported cars. The SV is imported and sits at the top.
The HSE uses a 3.0-litre six-cylinder mild-hybrid diesel with 350 PS and 700 Nm. The Autobiography has a 3.0-litre turbo petrol with 400 PS and 550 Nm. The SV uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 with 615 PS and 750 Nm, and Land Rover quotes 0-100 km/h in 4.7 seconds for it. All three have an 8-speed automatic, all-wheel drive, air suspension and all-wheel steering.
Ground clearance is 215 mm at normal height and rises to 291 mm in off-road mode, and the car can wade through 900 mm of water. The boot holds 818 litres behind the rear seats. Even the base HSE gets massage front seats, Executive Class rear seats, a head-up display and Meridian surround sound, so there is little you must add.
Diesel or petrol: which Range Rover should we buy?
For most Indian owners, the diesel HSE. It has more torque, should use less fuel, and costs ₹25 lakh less than the petrol Autobiography. Choose the petrol only if you drive short distances in the city, prefer its smoothness or want the Autobiography’s extra equipment.
Is the SV worth ₹3.50 crore?
Only if you want the V8 and the SV’s bespoke paints and trim. The ride, space and core comfort are much the same as the cheaper versions. For pure luxury per rupee, the made-in-India Autobiography is the better buy.
What will it cost to run?
Land Rover India does not publish fuel economy for these versions, so ask the dealer for real-world figures. Budget for high insurance premiums, expensive 21-inch or larger tyres, and service packages. Extended warranty is worth considering on a car this complex.
Range Rover or Range Rover Sport?
The Range Rover is longer, roomier in the back and set up for comfort and chauffeur use. The Sport is shorter, cheaper and more driver-focused. If you will be driven around, buy the Range Rover; if you drive yourself, the Sport is enough.
