Our verdict on the Mercedes-AMG G 63

The G 63 is a V8 icon with real off-road ability: 585 HP, a claimed 4.4-second 0-100 km/h time, three locking differentials and low range. At ₹3.80 crore ex-showroom, though, it is ₹90 lakh more than the G 450d, which has the same chassis, body and off-road hardware, and a diesel that will cost far less to run. Fuel, tyres, insurance and paint options (MANUFAKTUR colours add ₹5.75 lakh to ₹10.5 lakh) all add up. The G 63 has historically held its value well in India, which softens the cost. Buy it for the V8 and the image; buy the G 450d if you want the G-Class experience with more sense.

Mercedes-AMG G 63: a V8 off-roader with nothing held back

The Mercedes-AMG G 63 is the top combustion G-Class sold in India. Its 3,982 cc V8 makes 585 HP and 850 Nm, plus a 20 HP mild-hybrid boost, and drives all four wheels through a nine-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT TCT gearbox with low range. Mercedes-Benz claims 0-100 km/h in 4.4 seconds and a 220 km/h top speed.

It keeps the G-Class ladder-frame chassis and three 100 per cent differential locks. The regular G 63 adds AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL, 22-inch AMG forged wheels, Burmester 3D sound, the AMG Driver's and Performance packages, and a full set of driver assists. The G 63 Offroad Pro, at the same price, swaps some of that for the AMG Offroad Package PRO, a tailgate-mounted spare wheel and rubber mats. Both are listed at ₹3.80 crore ex-showroom by Mercedes-Benz India in October 2026. The car is 4,873 mm long, with a 640-litre boot and a 100-litre tank.

G 63 or G 63 Offroad Pro?

They cost the same. The standard G 63 is better equipped for road use per the configurator, with adaptive cruise, Blind Spot Assist, 22-inch forged wheels and Burmester sound. The Offroad Pro is for owners who will actually drive off-road.

Is the G 63 worth ₹90 lakh more than the G 450d?

Only if you want the V8. Both share the body, chassis and off-road hardware. The diesel has 750 Nm and lower running costs. The G 63 is faster and more dramatic.

What will it cost to run?

A lot. The V8 is thirsty, 22-inch tyres are costly, and insurance on a ₹3.8 crore car is high. Mercedes-Benz India does not publish fuel economy for the G 63.

How much do special paints cost?

Per the Mercedes-Benz India configurator, MANUFAKTUR paints add ₹5.75 lakh, ₹8.5 lakh or ₹10.5 lakh depending on the shade. Standard colours such as Polar White and Obsidian Black cost nothing extra.
