Our verdict on the EQS
The EQS 580 Celebration Edition is, on paper, strong value: ₹1.30 crore ex-showroom buys 544 HP, a 118 kWh battery, air suspension, rear-axle steering and a rear seat with reclining multi-contour seats and a chauffeur package. That is less than the EQS SUV 450. The catches are the low saloon body on Indian roads, a range figure that Mercedes-Benz India does not publish (press claims differ), and uncertain resale for large luxury EVs. If you want an electric limousine and have home charging, it is worth a test drive. If you need ground clearance or a higher seat, the EQS SUV is the safer choice.
Good things
- Lower price than the EQS SUV
- Very quiet, spacious and well-equipped rear seat
- Strong performance with all-wheel drive
- Air suspension and rear-axle steering
Could be better
- Low saloon body on bad roads
- Range not published by Mercedes-Benz India
- Limited paint choice
- Resale of large luxury EVs is uncertain

Mercedes-Benz EQS: an electric limousine for less than the SUV
The EQS is Mercedes-Benz's electric flagship saloon, assembled in India at Chakan. It is 5,216 mm long with a 3,210 mm wheelbase and a 620-litre boot. The version on sale in October 2026 is the EQS 580 4MATIC Celebration Edition, with two motors producing 544 HP and 858 Nm and a 118 kWh usable battery. Mercedes-Benz claims 0-100 km/h in 4.3 seconds.
It is equipped for being driven: multi-contour rear seats with adjustable backrests, rear seat heating and ventilation, a chauffeur position for the front passenger seat, rear touchscreen, automatic rear doors and rear-seat entertainment. Air suspension with adaptive damping, rear-axle steering, a head-up display and Level 2 driver assistance are standard. Mercedes-Benz India lists it at ₹1.30 crore ex-showroom. Charging is up to 11 kW AC and 200 kW DC; Mercedes quotes 31 minutes for 10-80 per cent on DC.
What is the range of the EQS 580?
Mercedes-Benz India does not publish a range figure, and press reports for the Celebration Edition quote different numbers. We do not show one. Expect real-world range to be well below any certified claim in Indian conditions.
EQS saloon or EQS SUV?
The saloon is quieter, cheaper and more powerful than the EQS SUV 450. The SUV sits higher, copes better with bad roads and has a larger boot. Choose based on your roads and whether rear-seat height matters.
Is it suited to Indian roads?
Air suspension helps, but this is a long, low saloon. Steep ramps and large speed breakers need care. Mercedes-Benz India does not publish its ground clearance.
Is the Celebration Edition limited?
It has been reported as a limited run. If you want one, check stock with your dealer, as availability may change.
