Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB

The long-wheelbase E-Class made for India, with 3,094 mm between the axles and a rear seat set up for being driven. It suits a buyer who will spend much of the time in the back, wants a quieter, more modern cabin than most rivals, and does not need an SUV.

Our verdict on the E-Class LWB

The E-Class LWB is one of the most rounded luxury saloons on sale in India. The long wheelbase gives a properly spacious rear seat, and Mercedes-Benz India makes the reclining, ventilated rear seats, rear sunblinds, Burmester 4D sound and the dashboard-wide MBUX Superscreen standard from the E200. The E220d is the best choice for most buyers: strong torque, diesel economy and the same equipment for a small premium. The E450 is quick and refined, but you pay ₹12.5 lakh more for performance that a chauffeur-driven owner may not use. Costs are those of a large luxury car, and the boot is good at 540 litres. If you want an SUV's height, look at the GLE; otherwise this is a strong buy.

Good things

  • Very spacious rear seat with recline and ventilation
  • Long standard equipment list from the base car
  • Diesel offers torque and economy for a small premium
  • Large 540-litre boot

Could be better

  • Long body is harder to park in tight city spaces
  • E450 premium is high for chauffeur use
  • Limited paint choice
  • High service and insurance costs

Mercedes-Benz E-Class LWB: the rear seat is the point

Mercedes-Benz India sells the E-Class only in long-wheelbase form, apart from the AMG E 53. The LWB is 5,082 mm long with a 3,094 mm wheelbase, and it is set up for the back seat: electrically reclining, climate-controlled rear seats, comfort headrests, electric rear sunblinds and a chauffeur package to move the front passenger seat.

There are three engines, all with a mild-hybrid starter-generator and a nine-speed automatic: the E200 with a 2.0 petrol (204 HP, 320 Nm), the E220d with a 2.0 diesel (197 HP, 440 Nm), and the E450 4MATIC with a 3.0 six-cylinder petrol (381 HP, 500 Nm) and all-wheel drive. Standard equipment includes the MBUX Superscreen with a passenger display, Burmester 4D sound, a panoramic sunroof and 360-degree camera. Ex-showroom prices run from ₹82 lakh to ₹96.5 lakh as listed by Mercedes-Benz India in October 2026. The boot holds 540 litres.

E200 or E220d for a chauffeur-driven car?

The E220d. It has 440 Nm against 320 Nm, which helps with a full car, and diesel suits long daily runs. It costs ₹2 lakh more and carries the same rear-seat equipment.

Is the E450 worth it?

If you drive yourself on weekends, the six-cylinder is smooth and quick, and you get all-wheel drive, AMG Line styling, DIGITAL LIGHT and ventilated front seats. For a car you will mostly sit in the back of, the diesel is better value.

How big is the E-Class LWB to live with?

At 5,082 mm it is longer than most SUVs in this price band. A 360-degree camera and parking assist help, but check your parking space before buying.

Should I consider an SUV instead?

An SUV gives a higher seat and more ground clearance, which helps on broken roads. The E-Class LWB gives a quieter, more spacious rear seat and a bigger boot than many SUVs. Mercedes-Benz India does not publish the E-Class ground clearance.
