Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet

A four-seat soft-top convertible with a 258 HP 2.0 petrol, all-wheel drive and a nine-speed automatic. It suits a buyer who wants open-air driving with genuine rear seats and a full luxury cabin, and who will use it as a second car rather than for daily chauffeur duty.

Our verdict on the CLE Cabriolet

The CLE Cabriolet is a well-equipped, comfortable four-seat convertible. At ₹1.16 crore ex-showroom the CLE 300 4MATIC gets 258 HP, all-wheel drive, adaptive LED DIGITAL LIGHT, a head-up display, Burmester 3D sound, ventilated seats and the AIRSCARF and AIRCAP systems that make roof-down driving comfortable on cooler evenings. The catch is Indian weather and roads. The roof will stay up for much of the year in most cities, and a convertible is a niche car at resale. Buy it if you want the experience and can use it on weekends; otherwise an E-Class LWB costs less and is far more practical.

Good things

  • Four real seats with a quiet acoustic roof
  • All-wheel drive and a smooth 258 HP petrol
  • Comprehensive kit, including head-up display
  • AIRSCARF and AIRCAP improve roof-down comfort

Could be better

  • Small 295-litre boot
  • Indian heat and dust limit roof-down use
  • Niche car with uncertain resale
  • High price for a 2.0 four-cylinder

Mercedes-Benz CLE Cabriolet: four seats and a fabric roof

The CLE Cabriolet replaces the old C-Class and E-Class convertibles in Mercedes-Benz's line-up. It is 4,850 mm long with a 2,865 mm wheelbase and seats four. India gets one version, the CLE 300 4MATIC, with a 1,999 cc turbo petrol making 258 HP and 400 Nm plus a 23 HP mild-hybrid boost, a nine-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. Mercedes-Benz claims 0-100 km/h in 6.6 seconds.

The roof is an acoustic fabric soft-top. Standard equipment includes AMG Line styling, 19-inch AMG wheels, DIGITAL LIGHT, AIRSCARF neck-level heating, AIRCAP wind deflector, ventilated and powered front seats with memory, head-up display, Burmester 3D sound, augmented-reality navigation and a 360-degree camera. Mercedes-Benz India lists it at ₹1.16 crore ex-showroom in October 2026. The boot holds 295 litres with the roof stowed.

Can adults use the rear seats?

Yes for shorter trips. It is a four-seater with proper rear seats, not token ones, but legroom and headroom are tighter than in a saloon. With the roof down, rear passengers get more wind, even with AIRCAP.

How practical is a convertible in India?

Heat, dust and rain limit roof-down driving to cooler months and evenings in most cities. A fabric roof also needs care if parked outdoors. Treat it as a weekend or second car.

Why is it all-wheel drive?

Mercedes-Benz India sells only the CLE 300 4MATIC. All-wheel drive helps traction in the wet and on poor surfaces, though it adds weight.

What about resale?

Convertibles are a small market in India, so finding a buyer later can take longer than with a saloon or SUV. Factor that into the cost of ownership.
