Maruti Suzuki XL6
Maruti’s six-seat MPV, a more upmarket Ertiga with two captain chairs in the middle row, sold through Nexa. It uses a 103 PS 1.5 petrol mild hybrid with a manual or six-speed automatic, plus a CNG Zeta. It suits families of up to six who want an easy, efficient and reliable people carrier rather than an SUV.

Our verdict on the XL6
The XL6 is a sensible family car with a little extra polish. The two middle-row captain chairs make it more comfortable than the Ertiga for six adults, and the 1.5 petrol is smooth and efficient, with a claimed 20.97 km/l in manual form. The six-speed automatic is a proper torque converter, and six airbags and ESP are standard. The weaknesses are the engine’s modest pull when fully loaded, a small boot with all rows up, and a price that overlaps with the Kia Carens, which offers turbo and diesel engines. Buy the Zeta, manual or automatic. The Alpha is hard to justify, since the Alpha+ costs only ₹48,300 more and adds ventilated seats and a 360-degree camera.
Good things
- Captain chairs in the middle row make it comfortable for six adults
- Smooth 1.5 petrol with a claimed 20.97 km/l manual and a torque-converter automatic
- Six airbags and ESP as standard
- Factory CNG option and Maruti’s low running costs
Could be better
- 103 PS feels modest with six people and luggage on board
- Small boot with all three rows in use
- No turbo or diesel option, unlike the Kia Carens
- CNG version is Zeta manual only

Maruti Suzuki XL6: the six-seat family car with captain chairs
The XL6 is Maruti Suzuki’s premium six-seat MPV, sold through Nexa showrooms. It shares its body and engine with the Ertiga but swaps the middle bench for two captain chairs and adds more equipment. Prices run from ₹11.62 lakh to ₹14.68 lakh ex-showroom across Zeta, Alpha and Alpha+ trims. CNG is limited to the Zeta.
The 1.5 petrol mild hybrid makes 103 PS and 136.8 Nm, with a five-speed manual or a six-speed torque-converter automatic with paddle shifters. Claimed figures are 20.97 km/l for the manual and 20.27 km/l for the automatic. The Zeta is also offered with factory CNG and a manual gearbox, claiming 26.32 km/kg.
Six airbags, ESP and hill-hold assist are standard. The Zeta already has LED lights, alloys and a touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The Alpha adds connected-car tech, and the Alpha+ adds ventilated front seats, a 360-degree camera and dual-tone paint options. Dual-tone paint with a black roof is reserved for the Alpha+.
Which variant should you buy?
The Zeta. It has the safety kit, captain chairs, touchscreen and LED lights at ₹11.62 lakh for the manual and ₹12.97 lakh for the automatic. Skip the Alpha; if you want more, go straight to the Alpha+, which adds ventilated seats and a 360-degree camera for only ₹48,300 over the Alpha.
Manual, automatic or CNG?
The automatic costs ₹1.35 lakh more on the Zeta and is a smooth torque converter, well suited to city traffic and long trips. The Zeta CNG costs ₹98,500 more than the petrol manual and claims 26.32 km/kg, which suits high-mileage users, though boot space suffers with the tank.
XL6 or Ertiga?
The Ertiga is cheaper and seats seven with a middle bench. The XL6 seats six with captain chairs and has more equipment. If you regularly carry seven, the Ertiga; if you carry up to six adults and want more comfort, the XL6.
How does it compare with the Kia Carens?
The Carens offers a turbo petrol and a diesel, more features at the top and a choice of six or seven seats. The XL6 is simpler, more efficient on petrol and backed by Maruti’s cheaper servicing. If you want more power or a diesel, test the Carens; for low running costs, the XL6.
