Our verdict on the Swift

The usual reason to climb a Maruti range is safety, and on the Swift that reason is gone: six airbags and ESP come with every variant. What you pay for above LXi is convenience and trim. VXi (O) is only ₹26,000 above VXi and adds push-button start and folding mirrors on top of the touchscreen, so it is the value pick. ZXi adds the bigger wheels, LED lamps and a nicer cabin for about ₹68,000 more. CNG is now available with an AMT too, which makes the CNG Swift a stronger city car than before. The top ZXi+ still cannot be had with CNG.

Maruti Suzuki Swift: the safety upsell does not apply here

The Swift uses Maruti’s 1,197 cc three-cylinder Z-series petrol, rated at about 82 PS and 112 Nm, with a five-speed manual or an AGS automated manual. Maruti now claims 24.8 km/l for the manual and 25.75 km/l for the AGS. The factory S-CNG version claims 32.85 km/kg, and since September 2026 it can be had with the AGS as well as the manual.

There are five trims: LXi, VXi, VXi (O), ZXi and ZXi+. Every one has six airbags, ESP and hill hold. VXi adds a touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, VXi (O) adds push-button start and folding mirrors, ZXi adds LED headlamps, 15-inch alloys, climate control and a wireless charger, and ZXi+ adds a 9-inch screen, cruise control and a rear camera.

As of October 2026, ex-showroom prices run from ₹5.84 lakh for the LXi manual to ₹8.86 lakh for the ZXi CNG AMT, with dual-tone ZXi+ versions costing ₹15,000 extra. Maruti raised prices more than once in 2026, so check the current list at the dealer. The boot holds 265 litres, and CNG versions lose some of that to the gas cylinder.

Which variant should you buy?

VXi (O). It costs ₹26,000 more than VXi and adds push-button start, folding mirrors and connected car tech on top of the touchscreen. Since safety is identical across the range, there is no protection reason to go higher. ZXi is worth its ₹68,000 premium only if you value the LED lamps, alloys and climate control.

Petrol or CNG?

CNG costs about ₹89,500 more than the matching petrol variant. It makes sense if you cover more than about 1,000 km a month and have easy access to CNG. You give up some power and boot space, and the top ZXi+ is petrol only.

Manual or AMT?

The AGS costs ₹45,000 more on petrol and ₹35,000 more on CNG, and Maruti claims better efficiency for the petrol AGS than the manual. For mostly city driving it is worth having. It is an automated manual, so shifts are slower than a proper automatic.
