Maruti Suzuki e Vitara
Maruti Suzuki’s first electric car, a 4.3-metre SUV sold through NEXA with a 49 kWh or 61 kWh LFP battery and up to 543 km of claimed range. It suits a family that wants an EV from the brand with the widest service network in India, and can live with a smaller boot than the petrol SUVs at this price.

Our verdict on the e Vitara
The e Vitara is a sensible, well-equipped electric SUV rather than an exciting one. Its strongest cards are the Maruti name, a service network no other EV maker in India can match, LFP batteries with an 8-year warranty, seven airbags as standard and a full-size spare. The weak points are a small 310-litre boot, a price that sits close to more established EVs, and no figures yet on how Maruti EVs hold their value. We would buy the Zeta: it has the bigger battery and the better motor without the cost of Alpha’s comfort extras. Before you sign, drive a Hyundai Creta Electric and a Tata Curvv EV at the same budget, and check what your nearest NEXA dealer charges for a home wallbox, because a 7.4 kW AC charge of the 61 kWh pack still takes about nine hours.
Good things
- Maruti’s service reach is far wider than any EV-only brand’s, which matters outside the big metros.
- Seven airbags, ESC, TPMS and front and rear parking sensors are standard on the cheapest Delta.
- LFP battery chemistry with an 8-year / 1.6 lakh km warranty.
- A full-size 18-inch spare alloy wheel instead of a puncture kit.
Could be better
- A 310-litre boot is small for a 4.3-metre SUV; many petrol SUVs at this price carry more.
- Delta’s 49 kWh pack and 144 PS motor feel stretched for regular highway use.
- ADAS, the 360-degree camera and ventilated seats are locked to the dearest Alpha.
- A new model with no track record yet on resale value.

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: an EV from the brand most of India already services with
The e Vitara is built on Suzuki’s HEARTECT-e platform, designed from the start for electric power rather than adapted from a petrol car. Every version is front-wheel drive with a single motor and an LFP battery. Delta gets a 49 kWh pack and a 106 kW (144 PS) motor; Zeta and Alpha get a 61 kWh pack and 128 kW (174 PS). Torque is 193 Nm across the range, and Maruti claims 440 km and 543 km of range respectively.
At 4,275 mm long with a 2,700 mm wheelbase, it is roughly Creta-sized outside, and the long wheelbase shows in rear legroom. The rear seat slides and reclines in two parts, and the backrest folds 40:20:40. The trade-off is the boot, which third-party figures put at 310 litres, noticeably less than most petrol SUVs of this size. Ground clearance is reported at 185 mm.
Equipment is generous from the base Delta: seven airbags, ESC, TPMS, front and rear sensors, an electronic parking brake, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and a 10.25-inch digital display. Alpha adds Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, a 10-way power driver seat, a fixed glass roof and Infinity speakers.
Should I pick the 49 kWh Delta or the 61 kWh Zeta?
Zeta, unless your driving is almost entirely in the city and your budget is fixed. The ₹1.75 lakh step gets you about 100 km more claimed range, 30 PS more power and a reversing camera. The bigger pack also gives you more margin on highway trips, where real-world EV range falls well short of the claimed figure.
How long does the e Vitara take to charge?
Maruti quotes about 6.5 hours for the 49 kWh pack and about 9 hours for the 61 kWh pack from 10 to 100 percent on a 7.4 kW AC charger. On a DC fast charger of at least 70 kW, the 61 kWh pack goes from 10 to 80 percent in about 45 minutes. A 3 kW portable cable comes with the car, but that is slow; plan on a wall charger at home.
What is the BaaS battery rental option?
NEXA advertises a Battery-as-a-Service plan where you pay a lower price for the car, from ₹10.99 lakh, and then ₹3.99 for every kilometre you drive as battery rental. It cuts the upfront cost but adds a running charge on top of electricity. Work out your yearly kilometres before choosing it; for high-mileage drivers outright purchase usually works out cheaper.
Is the boot big enough for a family?
It is the e Vitara’s weakest point. At about 310 litres it takes a couple of medium suitcases and soft bags, but a family heading off for a week will feel the pinch. The rear seats slide forward to free up more room, and the 40:20:40 split lets you carry long items with two people in the back.
