Our verdict on the XUV 7XO

The XUV 7XO keeps what made the XUV700 popular: strong engines, a comfortable ride, a spacious cabin and a long equipment list at prices that undercut most rivals. Even the base AX has six airbags, ESC, disc brakes all round and the triple-screen dashboard. The diesel is the engine to have; the petrol is quick but thirsty, and Mahindra has not yet published claimed mileage for either. The third row is best for children or short trips, and Level 2 ADAS only comes from the AX7T, which starts at ₹21.79 lakh. Watch the long list of versions carefully, as gearbox, seat count and paint all change the price. If you want a more refined petrol automatic, look at the Tata Safari or Hyundai Alcazar too. For most families, a diesel AX5 or AX7 automatic is a sound buy.

Mahindra XUV 7XO: the xuv700, refreshed and better equipped

The XUV 7XO replaced the XUV700 in early 2026. It is the same large SUV underneath, 4,695 mm long with a 2,750 mm wheelbase, but with a new face, new lights, a triple-screen dashboard on every version and more equipment higher up. Most versions are seven-seaters, and the AX7T and AX7L can also be had with six seats and second-row captain chairs.

Two engines are offered. The 2.0-litre turbo petrol makes 149.2 kW and 380 Nm. The 2.2-litre diesel makes 136 kW, with 420 Nm in the manual and 450 Nm in the automatic. Both come with a six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic, and the AX7T and AX7L diesel automatics can be had with all-wheel drive. Mahindra has not quoted official fuel economy figures yet.

Prices run from ₹13.99 lakh for the AX petrol manual to ₹25.79 lakh for the AX7L AWD, ex-showroom. Dual-tone paint with a Stealth Black roof adds about ₹15,000 on the AX7 trims. The AX3 adds a rear camera, the AX5 a panoramic sunroof, the AX7 alloys, leatherette and a 540-degree camera, the AX7T ADAS and Harman Kardon audio, and the AX7L luxury touches for rear passengers.

Petrol or diesel?

Diesel for most buyers. It has more torque, feels more relaxed on the highway and is far more economical, especially in a heavy seven-seater. The petrol is smooth and quick but uses a lot of fuel in city driving. The petrol is also cheaper to buy by about ₹50,000 to ₹1.4 lakh at each trim, so it makes sense only if you drive little.

Is the AX7T worth the extra over the AX7?

The AX7T adds Level 2 ADAS, ventilated front seats, a knee airbag, Harman Kardon audio and an electronic parking brake for about ₹2 lakh more. If you do a lot of highway driving, the ADAS and adaptive cruise on the automatic are useful. If not, the AX7 already has the key comfort and safety kit.

Do I need all-wheel drive?

For most people, no. AWD helps on wet hill roads, loose surfaces and the odd muddy track, but this is not a low-range off-roader. It is only offered on the AX7T and AX7L diesel automatics and adds about ₹75,000 to ₹83,000.

Six seats or seven?

The six-seat layout swaps the second-row bench for two captain chairs, which are more comfortable for adults and make it easier to reach the third row. It costs about ₹20,000 to ₹35,000 more. Choose seven seats if you sometimes need to carry three people in the middle row.
