Our verdict on the BE 6
The BE 6 is one of the most engaging electric SUVs in India. It is quick, has long claimed range, rides well for a sporty car and comes loaded with technology, while even the base One has six airbags, ESC and disc brakes all round. The variant list is long, though, and some choices are odd: the Three+ loses the Three's ventilated seats and memory driver seat, and the FE versions trade the triple screens for a dual-screen halo cockpit. The rear seat and rear visibility are tighter than in a conventional SUV because of the sloping roof. If you want practicality first, the XEV 9e or a Creta Electric is easier to live with. If you want a fun, fast EV with plenty of range, the BE 6 is a strong buy.
Good things
- Long claimed range of 573-708 km
- Strong performance with rear-wheel drive
- Safety kit is generous even on the base version
- Feature-rich cabin with large screens and premium audio
Could be better
- Rear seat space and visibility are limited by the sloping roof
- Some feature splits between variants are confusing
- Wall-box charger costs extra on every variant
- Satin and FE paints are limited to the pricier FE versions

Mahindra BE 6: a sporty electric with long legs
The BE 6 is built on Mahindra's INGLO electric platform and is 4,371 mm long with a 2,775 mm wheelbase and 207 mm of ground clearance. It is a five-seater with a 455-litre boot and a small 45-litre front boot. The current car is sold as the BE 6 SPORTEQ, with a wider choice of batteries and trims than at launch.
Three batteries are offered. The 59 kWh pack pairs with a 170 kW rear motor and has a claimed MIDC range of 573 km. The 70 kWh pack has a 180 kW motor and 651 km of claimed range. The 79 kWh pack has a 210 kW motor and 708 km. All versions have 360 Nm of torque and rear-wheel drive. Mahindra quotes about 20 minutes for a 20 to 80 percent DC fast charge on a suitable charger.
Prices start at ₹19.45 lakh ex-showroom for the One 59 kWh and go up to ₹26.95 lakh for the Four, FE Four and Launch Edition. These prices exclude the wall charger, which adds ₹75,000 for the 11.2 kW unit. Every version gets six airbags, ESC, disc brakes on all wheels and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Level 2 ADAS starts from the Three+.
Which battery should I choose?
For city driving with home charging, the 59 kWh is enough for most people, with Mahindra quoting over 400 km of real-world range. The 70 kWh adds about 80 km of claimed range for ₹1 lakh. The 79 kWh is the one for frequent highway trips and gives the strongest performance.
What is the FE version?
FE stands for the Formula E-themed editions. They get 20-inch wheels, adaptive suspension, satin and special paints and a race-style dual-screen halo cockpit instead of the triple screens. The FE uses the 79 kWh battery. Buy it for the look and the suspension, not for extra practicality.
BE 6 or XEV 9e?
Both share the same platform and batteries. The BE 6 is shorter, sportier and cheaper. The XEV 9e is larger, with a much bigger boot and more rear space, so it suits families better. If you mostly drive alone or as a couple, the BE 6 is the more fun choice.
What will running costs look like?
With home charging, the cost per kilometre is a small fraction of a petrol SUV's. Tyres on the larger 19 and 20-inch wheels are not cheap to replace. Check the battery warranty terms with your dealer before buying, as they matter most for long-term ownership cost.
