Our verdict on the Macan Electric
This is the Macan to buy if you can charge at home. It is more spacious than the petrol car, the cabin is newer, and the claimed range is long enough that highway trips between Indian cities are realistic with one fast-charging stop. The base rear-drive car is the sweet spot: it is quick, it has the longest range, and at ₹1.22 crore it costs far less than the 4S and Turbo. The catch is pricing. Porsche India's configurator lists the 4S at ₹1.63 crore, well above what it sold for at launch, which puts it close to a Cayenne Electric. Fast chargers that can use the full 270 kW are still rare, so plan around home charging. Rivals such as the BMW iX and Mercedes EQE SUV offer more space for similar money, but neither drives as well.

Porsche Macan Electric: a proper porsche, now electric
The Macan Electric shares its platform with the Audi Q6 e-tron but is set up very much as a Porsche. Porsche India sells three versions. The base Macan Electric has a single rear motor with 360 PS on overboost. The 4S adds a front motor for all-wheel drive and 516 PS, and the Turbo has 639 PS and 1,130 Nm.
Every version uses a 100 kWh (gross) battery and an 800-volt system that accepts up to 270 kW on DC, which Porsche says takes 10-80% in about 21 minutes. Claimed WLTP ranges run from 589 km for the Turbo to 641 km for the base car. At 4,784 mm long with a 2,893 mm wheelbase, it is bigger than the petrol Macan, and it has an 84-litre front trunk as well as the 540-litre boot.
Prices start at ₹1.22 crore ex-showroom for the base car and rise to ₹1.78 crore for the Turbo. Running costs per kilometre are far lower than the petrol car's if you charge at home, but tyres are expensive and service is only at Porsche centres in larger cities. Plan for a wall-box charger at home before delivery; it is the cheapest and easiest way to run the car.
Is the base rear-wheel-drive version enough?
For almost everyone, yes. It reaches 100 km/h in 5.7 seconds, has the longest range of the three, and gets the panoramic roof and four-zone climate control as standard. The 4S adds all-wheel drive, Surround View and keyless entry, but costs over ₹40 lakh more.
Can I take it on long trips in India?
Yes, with planning. A claimed 600-plus km means most trips between nearby cities need one charging stop at most. Real-world range will be lower at highway speeds and with the air conditioning on. Most Indian public chargers deliver 60-120 kW, so stops will take longer than Porsche's 21-minute claim.
How does it compare with the BMW iX or Mercedes EQE SUV?
The BMW and Mercedes are roomier and more focused on comfort. The Macan is the better car to drive and charges faster on a suitable charger. If rear-seat space is the priority, look at the rivals first.
Why is the 4S priced so close to the Cayenne Electric?
Porsche India's current configurator lists the 4S at ₹1.63 crore, while the Cayenne Electric starts at ₹1.77 crore. If you are looking at the 4S, it is worth driving the bigger Cayenne Electric before you decide.
