Porsche 911
The 911 is Porsche's rear-engined sports car and the benchmark everything else in its class is judged against. India gets four versions, from the 394 PS Carrera to the 711 PS hybrid Turbo S, all with a PDK gearbox. It suits a buyer who wants a sports car that can also be used every day, with small rear seats for children or bags.

- GT3 keeps a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated engine
- 135-litre front boot plus 2+2 seating (GT3 is a two-seater)
- Matrix LED headlights and PDK gearbox as standard
- 911 Carrera₹2.11 crore
The base Carrera is quick enough for any Indian road, rides better than the sportier versions and is ₹71 lakh cheaper than the GTS. Spend a little of the difference on the nose-lift option to clear speed breakers.
- 911 GT3₹3.33 crore
Only if you will use it on a track. The naturally aspirated 4.0 is special, but the GT3 is a stiff two-seater with very low ground clearance, which makes it hard work on Indian roads.

Our verdict on the 911
The 911 remains the sports car that is easiest to live with. It has usable rear seats for children, a front boot, good visibility and a ride that copes with poor roads better than its rivals. The base Carrera is the one we would buy. It is fast, it sounds good, and it leaves room in the budget for options and running costs. The GTS and Turbo S are faster still, and their hybrid systems are clever, but on Indian roads you will rarely use what they offer. The GT3 is a track car first. Ground clearance is the main daily problem: 122 mm on the Carrera and less on the others, so a front-axle lift option is close to essential. Service is only at Porsche centres in big cities, and tyres and brakes are costly. Resale is strong compared with most sports cars.
Good things
- Usable every day: 2+2 seats, a front boot and a ride that copes with bad roads
- Strong performance even from the base Carrera
- Holds its value better than most sports cars
- Wide choice of colours at no extra cost
Could be better
- Low ground clearance; a nose-lift option is close to essential in India
- Prices jump steeply from the Carrera to the GTS and Turbo S
- Expensive tyres, brakes and options
- Rear seats suit only small children

Porsche 911: the everyday sports car
The current 911 is the updated 992 generation. Porsche India's configurator lists four coupés. The Carrera has a 3.0-litre twin-turbo flat-six with 394 PS and an 8-speed PDK gearbox. The Carrera 4 GTS uses Porsche's T-Hybrid system with a 3.6-litre engine and an electric turbocharger for 541 PS, plus all-wheel drive.
The GT3 has a 4.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six with 510 PS, a 7-speed PDK and no rear seats. At the top, the Turbo S uses a twin-electric-turbo version of the T-Hybrid system for 711 PS and a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 2.5 seconds. Every 911 is 2,450 mm between the axles, with a 135-litre boot in the nose (128 litres on the Turbo S).
Prices run from ₹2.11 crore for the Carrera to ₹3.82 crore for the Turbo S, before options. Porsche's option list is long and expensive, so the price of a typical car is higher. Service is only at Porsche centres in larger cities. Porsche India also offers a front-axle lift system on every 911, priced from about ₹4.57 lakh on the Carrera, and we would treat it as essential for daily use.
Can I use a 911 every day in India?
More easily than most sports cars. The Carrera rides well, the cabin is practical and the 2+2 seats take children or bags. Ground clearance is the issue: 122 mm on the Carrera, less on the others. Budget for the front-axle lift option and take speed breakers slowly.
Is the GTS or Turbo S worth the extra money?
For most owners, no. The Carrera is already very quick on Indian roads. The GTS adds all-wheel drive, rear-axle steering and a sharper setup, and the Turbo S adds ceramic brakes and huge pace. Buy them if you want the best, not because the Carrera falls short.
Should I buy the GT3?
Only if you have regular track access. The GT3 is a two-seater with stiff suspension and the lowest clearance in the range. On public roads it is tiring and you will rarely use its engine fully.
What does a 911 cost to run?
Claimed fuel use works out to about 7-10 km/l, and real figures in traffic are lower. Tyres, brakes and servicing are expensive, and the nearest Porsche centre may be in another city. Resale is strong, which offsets some of the cost.
