Porsche Cayenne Coupé

The Cayenne Coupé is the Cayenne with a lower, sloping roofline, a fixed glass roof and an active rear spoiler. It uses the same V6 and V8 engines and costs a little more than the regular Cayenne. It suits a buyer who wants the Cayenne's driving manners with a sportier look, and can live with a smaller boot and four seats as standard.

Our verdict on the Cayenne Coupé

The Cayenne Coupé is mostly a style choice. It drives almost exactly like the regular Cayenne, which is a good thing, and it comes with a few extras such as Sport Chrono, a fixed glass roof and an active rear spoiler. The base Coupé costs about ₹6 lakh more than the base Cayenne, so the price gap is small. The trade-offs are practical. The boot shrinks from 772 to 592 litres, rear headroom is lower, and you get four seats unless you choose the free 2+1 bench. The Black Edition again charges a lot for cosmetic upgrades. If you like the shape and rarely carry five, the Coupé is easy to recommend. If the car is your family's main vehicle, the regular Cayenne is the better buy.

Good things

  • Same strong driving manners as the Cayenne
  • Sport Chrono and a glass roof as standard
  • Small price premium over the regular Cayenne
  • V8 GTS available

Could be better

  • Boot drops to 592 litres from the Cayenne's 772
  • Four seats as standard; the five-seat bench must be specified
  • Lower rear headroom than the regular Cayenne
  • Limited colour choice

Porsche Cayenne Coupé: the cayenne with a sloping roof

The Cayenne Coupé shares its engines, platform and wheelbase with the Cayenne SUV. The roof is lower and slopes towards a rear spoiler that rises at speed. Porsche India lists three versions: the 353 PS V6 Coupé, the Coupé Black Edition with more equipment and black details, and the GTS Coupé with a 500 PS twin-turbo V8.

Every version has an 8-speed Tiptronic S automatic, all-wheel drive, adaptive air suspension and the Sport Chrono Package. A fixed panoramic glass roof is standard. The car is 4,930 mm long and 1,659 mm tall, with 192 mm of ground clearance at normal height. Boot space is 592 litres, and the standard rear seats take two people; a 2+1 bench is a free option.

Prices run from ₹1.57 crore to ₹2.13 crore ex-showroom. The main rivals are the BMW X6, Mercedes GLE Coupé and Audi Q8. Running and service costs match the regular Cayenne, and Porsche centres are only in larger cities. The Coupé's fixed glass roof cannot be opened, so buyers who want an opening roof should look at the regular Cayenne Black Edition instead.

Cayenne or Cayenne Coupé?

Buy the regular Cayenne if you carry five people or lots of luggage often. Buy the Coupé if you prefer the look and mostly travel with four or fewer. The Coupé adds Sport Chrono and a glass roof as standard, which offsets most of its ₹6 lakh premium.

Can it seat five?

Not as standard. It comes with two individual rear seats. Porsche offers a 2+1 rear bench at no extra cost, so ask for it when you order if you need a fifth seat.

How does it compare with the BMW X6?

The Cayenne Coupé is the better car to drive, with sharper steering and a more controlled ride. The BMW is usually cheaper and comes with more standard equipment. Try both before you decide.
