BMW 7 Series
BMW's flagship saloon, facelifted in 2026 and sold in India as the 740 M Sport with a 400 hp 3.0-litre straight-six. Its main draw is the rear cabin, with a roof-mounted 31.3-inch theatre screen and air suspension. It suits a chauffeur-driven owner who wants the most technology-heavy luxury saloon BMW makes.

Our verdict on the 7 Series
The 7 Series is built around the back seat, and that is where it justifies ₹1.95 crore ex-showroom: air suspension, a fold-down 31.3-inch screen and a long list of comfort features. The 400 hp straight-six is smooth and quick. The awkward fact for the petrol car is that BMW sells the electric i7 50 xDrive from the same price, and for a chauffeur-driven car that mostly does city runs, the i7 is quieter and cheaper to run. BMW India does not publish dimensions, boot size or a fuel figure for the 740, which makes comparisons harder. Rivals such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class are worth a test drive. Choose the 740 if you want petrol simplicity for long trips without charging stops.
Good things
- Outstanding rear-seat comfort and entertainment.
- Smooth, strong straight-six petrol.
- Adaptive air suspension for a calm ride.
Could be better
- The electric i7 starts at the same price.
- BMW India publishes very few practical figures (boot, dimensions, economy).
- Large size makes city parking and tight lanes difficult.

BMW 7 Series: a rear-seat lounge with a straight-six up front
The facelifted 7 Series arrived in India in September 2026. BMW India sells the petrol car as the 740 M Sport, with a 3.0-litre turbo inline-six making 294 kW (400 hp) and 540 Nm, an eight-speed Steptronic automatic and rear-wheel drive. BMW claims 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds and a 250 km/h top speed.
Inside, BMW Panoramic Vision projects information across the base of the windscreen, and rear passengers get a 31.3-inch 8K theatre screen that drops from the roof. Adaptive two-axle air suspension is standard. BMW lists five paint colours for India, with BMW Individual two-tone finishes available at extra cost.
740 M Sport or i7?
Both start at ₹1.95 crore. The i7 50 xDrive is electric with all-wheel drive and a claimed 728 km (WLTP). If you have home charging, it is the better chauffeur car. The 740 suits owners who make long trips where charging is uncertain.
Is the 7 Series practical as a family car?
The cabin is enormous, but the car is very large and BMW India does not publish its boot size. Check luggage space and your parking spot before you commit.
What does the facelift change?
BMW India highlights the Iconic Glow kidney grille, BMW Individual crystal headlights, BMW Panoramic iDrive with Panoramic Vision and BMW Operating System X. Ask the dealer for a full list against the outgoing car.
