Ferrari 296 GTB
The 296 GTB is Ferrari's mid-engined two-seater, built around a 3.0 twin-turbo V6 and an electric motor that together make 830 PS. It can run up to 25 km on electricity, and it is the most affordable Ferrari coupe on sale in India. It suits a buyer who wants a modern Ferrari for road drives rather than the flagship.

Our verdict on the 296 GTB
The 296 GTB is the Ferrari that makes the most sense in India. Its compact size and rear-wheel drive make it engaging, and the plug-in system lets you drive quietly through town. Ferrari's 830 PS figure means it is not short of pace against anything in this price band. The downsides are familiar: a low nose, little luggage space, few Ferrari service points and high insurance. It has also been on sale since 2022, and Indian media report that Ferrari is taking orders at lower prices ahead of the India-EU trade agreement, so ask the dealer exactly what you will pay before booking. Against the Lamborghini Temerario, it costs less and is easier to live with.
Good things
- Huge performance from a compact, light two-seater
- Short electric-only trips possible after home charging
- Cheapest way into a current Ferrari coupe in India
Could be better
- Low ride height; Ferrari does not publish ground clearance
- Very little luggage space
- Service network limited to a few big cities
- Price may change with the India-EU trade agreement

Ferrari 296 GTB: the Ferrari that makes most sense here
The 296 GTB brought a V6 to a Ferrari-badged series road car for the first time. The 2,992 cc twin-turbo engine makes 663 PS on its own, and an electric motor between engine and gearbox adds 167 PS for a total of 830 PS and 740 Nm. Ferrari claims 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed above 330 km/h.
A 7.45 kWh battery gives up to 25 km of electric driving at up to 135 km/h. The 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox drives the rear wheels only, and Ferrari's electronic differential and traction systems keep the car stable. At 4,565 mm long with a 2,600 mm wheelbase, it is compact by supercar standards, which helps in city traffic.
In India the 296 GTB has been on sale since 2022 at ₹5.40 crore ex-showroom. Running costs include expensive tyres, brakes and insurance, and Ferrari workshops are limited to a few metros. The optional Assetto Fiorano pack adds lighter parts and track-focused suspension for buyers who plan circuit days.
Is the 296 GTB a real plug-in hybrid?
Yes. It can be charged from a socket and can drive up to 25 km on electricity alone. That is enough for quiet starts and short errands. Ferrari's WLTP weighted fuel figure is 8.3 litres per 100 km, which assumes regular charging.
Can I buy the open-top 296 GTS in India?
Autocar India reports that the 296 GTS convertible is not sold here, and Ferrari does not list an Indian price for it. If you want an open Ferrari, the Amalfi Spider is the current option in India.
296 GTB or Lamborghini Temerario?
The Temerario has a V8, all-wheel drive and more power, but costs about ₹60 lakh more. The 296 GTB is smaller and lighter, which suits Indian roads better. Unless you want the V8 or plan regular track days, we would take the Ferrari.
