Maserati MCPura

Maserati's two-seat, mid-engined sports car, sold in India as a coupe and as the Cielo with a retractable glass roof. It is the updated successor to the MC20, built on a carbon-fibre tub with a 630 PS twin-turbo V6. It suits a buyer who wants something rarer than the usual Italian and British supercars and accepts a thin service network.

Our pick at each price
  • Coupe₹4.12 crore

The coupe is ₹1 crore cheaper, slightly lighter and a touch more efficient. The engine, gearbox and performance are the same, so unless open-air driving matters to you, the coupe is the better use of the money.

  • Cielo₹5.12 crore

Worth it only if you will actually drive with the roof open. The glass roof is clever and quick, but ₹1 crore is a big premium for the same car underneath.

Our verdict on the MCPura

The MCPura is a fast, light and genuinely exotic mid-engined car, and its V6 has real character. On paper it gives little away to rivals that cost more. The concerns are not about the car itself but about owning it in India: Maserati's dealer and service footprint is small and mostly in a few big cities, parts can take time, and Maserati sports cars have historically lost value faster than Ferrari or Porsche equivalents. Prices here are ex-showroom before options, and Maserati's personalisation programme can add a lot. If you live near a Maserati workshop and want something you will rarely see on the road, it is a credible choice. If resale and easy servicing matter more, a Porsche 911 or a McLaren Artura is the safer bet.

Good things

  • Strong 630 PS V6 with quick, sharp responses in a car that weighs around 1.5 tonnes
  • Carbon-fibre tub and butterfly doors give it true supercar credentials
  • Cielo lets you have a roofless supercar with the same performance as the coupe
  • Far rarer on Indian roads than most rivals at this price

Could be better

  • Small Maserati dealer and service network in India
  • Resale value is a real worry compared with Porsche and Ferrari
  • Only two seats and 150 litres of luggage space split between two small boots
  • Cielo costs ₹1 crore more than the coupe for the same mechanicals

Maserati MCPura: a rarer route into the supercar club

The MCPura is the evolution of the MC20, Maserati's mid-engined sports car. India gets two versions: the fixed-roof coupe and the Cielo, which swaps the roof for an electrically retractable glass panel. Both use the same 3.0-litre twin-turbo Nettuno V6, rated at 630 PS and 720 Nm, driving the rear wheels through an 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

The structure is a carbon-fibre monocoque engineered with Dallara, and the coupe weighs about 1,475 kg in homologated form. Maserati claims 0-100 km/h in 2.9 seconds and a top speed above 320 km/h. The butterfly doors are not just for show; they make getting into a low, wide car easier. Luggage space is 100 litres at the back and 50 litres at the front.

Both versions come with a long list of personalisation options through Maserati's Fuoriserie programme, which can raise the price well beyond the ex-showroom figure. Running costs are those of a supercar: premium fuel, expensive tyres and specialist servicing, and you will need to be within reach of one of Maserati's few Indian workshops.

Coupe or Cielo: which should we buy?

Mechanically they are the same car, with the same engine, gearbox and claimed acceleration. The Cielo adds a glass roof that opens in 12 seconds and can tint from clear to opaque. It costs ₹1 crore more and is slightly heavier and thirstier. Buy the Cielo only if open-top driving is a big part of why you want the car.

How practical is it for daily use?

It is a two-seater with 150 litres of luggage space across two small boots, enough for soft bags but not much else. It sits very low, so Indian speed breakers and steep ramps need care; Maserati offers a front-axle lifter as an option, and we would treat it as essential. Maserati does not publish a ground clearance figure.

What does it cost to run?

Maserati's WLTP combined figure works out to about 8.7 km/l for the coupe and 8.5 km/l for the Cielo; expect much less in city traffic. The 60-litre tank needs premium petrol. Servicing, tyres and insurance are supercar-level costs, and parts may need to come from Italy.

How does it compare with rivals?

It costs less than many mid-engined rivals while offering similar performance. The trade-off is ownership: Porsche and Ferrari have stronger resale and wider support. If those matter more than exclusivity, look at a Porsche 911 or a McLaren Artura before deciding.
