Aston Martin DB12
Aston Martin's front-engined grand tourer, now sold in India as the 700 PS DB12 S coupe and the DB12 S Volante convertible. It suits a buyer who wants a fast, comfortable long-distance car with small rear seats and a boot, rather than an all-out sports car.

Our verdict on the DB12
The DB12 S is the Aston Martin that makes the most sense as an everyday luxury car. It is quicker than most buyers will ever use, yet the ride, the 2+2 cabin and the boot make long drives easy. The India-UK trade deal has brought the price down to about ₹4.10 crore, which is a large saving and puts it below a Bentley Continental GT, which as a plug-in hybrid did not get the duty cut. The rear seats are for children or bags only, and the low front still needs care on Indian roads. Aston Martin's network in India is very small, so ownership outside the big metros needs planning. If you want a fast, beautiful GT and accept weaker resale than a Porsche or Mercedes-AMG, the DB12 S is a strong buy at its new price.
Good things
- Large price cut after the India-UK trade deal
- Strong 700 PS V8 with a comfortable GT ride
- Generous standard kit: carbon brakes, forged wheels, surround camera
- 2+2 seats and a usable boot for a car of this type
Could be better
- Rear seats suit children or luggage only
- Very small Aston Martin dealer network in India
- Resale is weaker than rival German brands
- Low nose needs care over speed breakers and ramps

Aston Martin DB12: a 700 PS grand tourer at a far lower price
The DB12 sits above the Vantage in Aston Martin's range. It is a front-engined 2+2 grand tourer with a bonded aluminium structure. India now gets the S version, which raises output of the 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 to 700 PS and 800 Nm. Power goes to the rear wheels through an eight-speed automatic and an electronic differential, and Aston Martin quotes 0-100 km/h in 3.5 seconds.
The coupe costs ₹4.10 crore and the Volante convertible ₹4.35 crore, both indicative ex-showroom. That is well over ₹2.5 crore less than before the India-UK trade deal cut import duty on British-built petrol cars. Carbon ceramic brakes, 21-inch forged wheels and adaptive dampers are standard, so the options list is about taste rather than missing basics.
The cabin has a 10.25-inch touchscreen and a 10.25-inch driver display, Apple CarPlay Ultra, heated 16-way sports seats and a 3D surround-view camera, which helps with the long bonnet in tight parking. The coupe has a 262-litre boot, enough for two soft bags; the Volante's fabric roof takes some of that space and leaves about 206 litres.
DB12 S or Bentley Continental GT?
The Continental GT is the more luxurious car and its plug-in hybrid can run on electric power in town, but it costs well over ₹5 crore because hybrids did not get the trade-deal duty cut. The DB12 S is lighter, more agile and much cheaper now. For a driver's GT, the Aston Martin is the better value.
Is the Volante worth ₹25 lakh more?
The Volante keeps the same engine and adds a fabric roof that opens in about 14 seconds at up to 50 km/h. It is heavier and the boot shrinks to about 206 litres with the roof up. If you live where open-top driving is pleasant for a few months a year, it is a fair premium.
What does it cost to run?
Aston Martin's WLTP figure is about 8.4 km/l for the coupe; expect less in city traffic. Tyres and brake service on a 700 PS car are costly. Service is through very few dealers in India, so plan for pick-up or travel time if you live away from the big metros.
