Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider

The 12Cilindri Spider is the open version of Ferrari's front-engined V12 grand tourer, with a folding hard top. It keeps the coupe's 830 PS naturally aspirated 6.5-litre engine that revs to 9,500 rpm. It suits a buyer who wants the sound of a V12 with the roof down and accepts a strict two-seater with a high price.

The only Spider version, at ₹9.15 crore before options. Worth it only if open-air V12 driving is the point. Dealers are taking orders at about ₹6.38 crore for delivery after the India-EU trade deal, so waiting saves a large sum.

Our verdict on the 12Cilindri Spider

The 12Cilindri Spider gives you a naturally aspirated V12 with nothing between you and the sound, which few new cars still offer. It is almost as quick as the coupe and the folding hard top makes it secure when closed. The drawbacks are the same as the coupe's, only larger: ₹9.15 crore is a great deal of money for a two-seater, the car is very wide, and it sits low. Timing matters most. Indian media report that Ferrari is taking orders at about ₹6.38 crore for delivery after the India-EU trade agreement takes effect, expected in 2027 or 2028. Paying full price for an earlier car means heavy depreciation. If you want an open Ferrari for touring, the Amalfi Spider costs roughly half as much; if you want this V12, book at the lower price and wait.

Good things

  • Open-top naturally aspirated V12, a rare combination
  • Folding hard top adds security and quiet when closed
  • Large saving available if you wait for the trade-deal price

Could be better

  • Strict two-seater; Ferrari does not publish boot space
  • Very wide at 2,176 mm and low to the ground
  • 60 kg heavier than the coupe
  • Full price now looks poor value against the post-trade-deal order price

Ferrari 12Cilindri Spider: the open-air V12, if you can wait

The 12Cilindri Spider shares its 6,496 cc V12 with the coupe. With no turbochargers or hybrid system, it makes 830 PS at 9,250 rpm and 678 Nm, and revs to 9,500 rpm. An 8-speed dual-clutch gearbox drives the rear wheels. Ferrari claims under 3.0 seconds from 0-100 km/h, under 8.3 seconds to 200 km/h and a top speed above 340 km/h.

A folding hard top replaces the coupe's fixed roof. The Spider weighs 1,620 kg dry, 60 kg more than the coupe, and Ferrari's WLTP figure rises slightly to 15.9 litres per 100 km. Four-wheel steering and active rear flaps carry over. It is a strict two-seater, and Ferrari does not publish boot space for the Spider, so check that your luggage fits before buying.

In India the Spider is listed at ₹9.15 crore ex-showroom. Ferrari is taking orders at about ₹6.38 crore for delivery after the India-EU trade agreement takes effect, which Indian media expect in 2027 or 2028. Insurance, tyres and brakes are expensive, and Ferrari workshops are found only in a few metro cities.

Should I wait for the India-EU trade deal price?

For most buyers, yes. Indian media report that dealers are booking the Spider at about ₹6.38 crore for delivery after the agreement takes effect, against ₹9.15 crore today. The lower price does not apply to cars delivered earlier and could still change, so get the terms in writing.

12Cilindri Spider or Amalfi Spider?

The Amalfi Spider has a 640 PS twin-turbo V8, small rear seats and a fabric roof, and launched at ₹4.60 crore. The 12Cilindri Spider is faster, sounds special and costs about twice as much. For relaxed open-air touring the Amalfi Spider makes more sense; the V12 is for those who want it above all else.

How hard is it to live with in India?

It is a big, low, wide car. Ferrari does not publish ground clearance, so speed breakers and steep ramps need care, and parking takes planning. Fuel use is high. Servicing means a trip to one of the few Ferrari dealers, usually in a metro city.
