Audi Q8

The Q8 is Audi's coupe-styled five-seat SUV, sold in India in one version with a 340 PS 3.0 V6 petrol, an 8-speed automatic and quattro all-wheel drive. It shares its engine with the cheaper Q7, so it suits a buyer who wants the sloping roof, the lighting tech and a more personal feel, and does not need seven seats.

Our verdict on the Q8

The Q8 is a good car that is hard to justify on paper. It has the same 340 PS V6 and quattro system as the Q7, a nicer cabin feel, laser headlights and a sliding rear seat, but it gives up the third row and costs about ₹26 lakh more. It is also about ₹30 lakh cheaper than a Range Rover Sport and over ₹40 lakh below a Porsche Cayenne Coupé. Running costs will be high: Audi India publishes no fuel figure, the wheels are 21 inches, and servicing a V6 SUV is not cheap. Audi raised prices in April 2026, and if the India-EU trade agreement comes into force as expected from 2027, imported European SUVs may get cheaper, so ask the dealer about stock pricing and any year-end offers. If you want the look, it is a sound choice; if you want value, the Q7 makes more sense.

Good things

  • Smooth 340 PS V6 with quattro all-wheel drive
  • Lighting tech: HD Matrix LED with laser light and OLED tail-lights
  • Sliding rear seat and a 605-litre boot
  • Well below the Range Rover Sport and Porsche Cayenne Coupé on price

Could be better

  • About ₹26 lakh more than a Q7 with the same engine and more space
  • Petrol only, and Audi India publishes no fuel economy figure
  • Ground clearance and fuel tank size not published by Audi India
  • Price could change if the India-EU trade agreement takes effect

Audi Q8: the Q7's engine in a sharper suit

The Q8 sits above the Q7 in Audi's SUV range. It is lower and has a sloping roofline, but keeps a 2,995 mm wheelbase, so rear legroom is fine. In India it is sold as the 55 TFSI quattro with a 2,995 cc V6 turbo petrol making 340 PS and 500 Nm, an 8-speed tiptronic automatic and permanent all-wheel drive. Audi claims 0-100 km/h in 5.6 seconds and a 250 km/h top speed.

The facelifted Q8 went on sale in India in August 2024. Its main changes are HD Matrix LED headlights with Audi laser light and selectable light signatures, OLED tail-lights that brighten when a car comes close, and a reworked grille and bumpers. Inside, there is a panoramic sunroof and a three-part rear seat that slides to trade legroom for boot space.

Audi's brochure lists the Q8 at 4,995 mm long, 1,995 mm wide and 1,705 mm tall, on 21-inch wheels. Boot space is 605 litres with the seats up and up to 1,755 litres with them folded. Audi India does not publish a fuel economy figure, a ground clearance figure or the tank size, so we have left those out.

Q8 or Q7: which should I buy?

They share the 340 PS V6 and quattro system. The Q7 adds a third row and more headroom for about ₹26 lakh less. The Q8 has a sportier shape, laser headlights and a more personal cabin. Unless the styling matters a great deal to you, the Q7 is the better-value buy.

Is the Q8 practical as a family car?

For four adults and luggage, yes. The 2,995 mm wheelbase gives decent rear space, the rear seat slides, and the boot holds 605 litres. The sloping roof cuts rear headroom a little for tall passengers, and there is no seven-seat option.

Will the India-EU trade agreement make it cheaper?

Possibly. Reports say the agreement, expected to come into force from 2027, will cut import duty on a quota of European cars. Audi has not said whether the Q8 will benefit. Prices went up by up to 2% in April 2026, so compare the dealer's current quote with the list price before booking.

What does the Q8 cost to run?

Expect high bills. Audi India gives no fuel figure for the V6, and big SUVs like this usually return single-digit city figures. Tyres for 21-inch wheels are costly. Ask for a multi-year service plan and extended warranty quote with the car.
