Audi Q5
Audi's mid-size luxury SUV, sold with a 265 PS 2.0 turbo petrol and quattro all-wheel drive as standard. It suits a family that wants a well-built five-seater that is quick on the highway and sure-footed in the rain, without the size and running costs of a Q7.

Our verdict on the Q5
The Q5 is a well-rounded luxury SUV with a strong petrol engine and all-wheel drive as standard. It is quick, stable at speed and nicely finished. Its age shows in the dashboard design compared with the newer BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC, and the base Premium Plus misses a 360-degree camera, which is hard to live without in a car this wide. Buy the Technology, negotiate a discount, and keep in mind that a new-generation Q5 is expected in 2027, which will affect resale. If you want the newest tech, test the X3 and GLC first; if you want a proven, sure-footed petrol SUV, the Q5 still makes sense.
Good things
- Quick 265 PS petrol with quattro all-wheel drive as standard
- Panoramic sunroof and 8 airbags on both trims
- Practical 520-litre boot
- Adaptive dampers on the Technology trim help the ride
Could be better
- No 360-degree camera on the base Premium Plus
- Cabin design is older than the latest BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC
- Petrol only; no diesel or hybrid
- New-generation Q5 expected in 2027 will hit resale

Audi Q5: all-wheel drive and a strong petrol as standard
The Q5 is Audi's five-seat SUV between the Q3 and the seven-seat Q7. In India it comes with one engine: a 2.0-litre turbo petrol rated at 265 PS and 370 Nm, paired with a 7-speed S tronic dual-clutch automatic and quattro all-wheel drive. Audi quotes 0-100 km/h in 6.1 seconds and a 240 km/h top speed.
Both trims get a panoramic sunroof, 3-zone climate control, the digital Audi virtual cockpit, 30-colour ambient lighting and 8 airbags. The Technology adds a 360-degree camera with Park Assist, Bang & Olufsen 3D sound with 19 speakers, navigation, keyless entry with a kick-to-open boot, driver seat memory and adaptive dampers.
The Q5 is 4,682 mm long with a 2,827 mm wheelbase, so it parks more easily than a Q7. The 520-litre boot is useful for a family, and ground clearance is about 200 mm. Claimed efficiency is 13.47 km/l and the tank holds 70 litres. Like every Q5 here, it is petrol only, with no diesel or hybrid option.
Is the base Premium Plus enough?
It has the key comfort features, but it lacks the 360-degree camera, keyless entry and adaptive dampers. In crowded Indian parking a 360-degree camera on a car nearly 1.9 m wide is very useful, which is why we lean towards the Technology.
Q5 or A6 for the same money?
The prices overlap. The Q5 has quattro all-wheel drive and more ground clearance, so it copes better with bad roads and steep ramps. The A6 has a bigger boot, better claimed efficiency and a more relaxed highway ride.
Should I wait for the new-generation Q5?
Aggregators expect a new Q5 in India in 2027, but Audi has not confirmed a date. If you buy now, do it with a good discount and plan to keep the car for several years, so the generation change matters less to you.
Can the Q5 seat seven?
No, it is a five-seater. If you need a third row, the Q7 is Audi's seven-seater, though it costs over ₹20 lakh more ex-showroom.
