Our verdict on the LM
The LM does one job very well: carrying important passengers in quiet comfort. The second-row seats recline with leg rests, the sliding doors and low step make getting in easy, and the hybrid runs silently in traffic. It is less impressive from the driver’s seat, and the 247 PS hybrid has a lot of weight to move. At ₹2.27 crore and up, it costs far more than a Toyota Vellfire, which shares much of its engineering. Buy the LM if the Lexus badge, the extra craftsmanship and the four-seat lounge layout matter to you. Otherwise the Vellfire gives you most of the comfort for much less. Prices are indicative ex-showroom.
Good things
- Superb second-row comfort with reclining ottoman seats
- Very quiet hybrid suits chauffeur-driven city use
- Four-seater’s partition and 48-inch screen create a private office
- Long Lexus warranty and hybrid battery cover
Could be better
- Costs far more than the closely related Toyota Vellfire
- Modest power for a large, heavy MPV
- Lexus publishes no India mileage or ground clearance figure
- Very few Lexus workshops outside major cities

Lexus LM: a business-class cabin on wheels
The LM is Lexus’s luxury MPV, 5,125 mm long with a 3,000 mm wheelbase. It is aimed at chauffeur-driven owners rather than drivers, and in India competes mainly with the Toyota Vellfire and, for buyers seeking rear comfort, long-wheelbase luxury sedans such as the Mercedes-Benz S-Class.
Power comes from a 2.5-litre petrol engine with front and rear electric motors, giving 182 kW, about 247 PS, and E-Four all-wheel drive through an e-CVT. The nickel-metal hydride battery charges itself, so there is nothing to plug in. Adaptive Variable Suspension and extra body bracing are tuned for a calm rear-seat ride.
The 7-Seater VIP has power ottoman seats in the second row, a third row that splits and folds, a 14-inch ceiling screen and a 21-speaker Mark Levinson system. The 4-Seater Ultra Luxury replaces the rear rows with two massaging recliners behind a partition with dimming glass, a 48-inch ultra-wide screen, a refrigerator and a 23-speaker system.
LM or Toyota Vellfire?
The two share their basic engineering and hybrid system. The LM adds a more luxurious cabin, Lexus-specific styling and the option of the four-seat lounge layout, but costs well over ₹1 crore more. If you want rear comfort and reliability, the Vellfire covers most of it. The LM is for buyers who want the top-end finish and the Lexus ownership experience.
Four seats or seven?
Choose seven seats if the car carries family or a team. The second row is still the highlight, with reclining ottoman seats. Choose four seats only if it will mainly carry one or two people who want privacy, a big screen and a work-friendly space.
Is it practical for daily use?
In the city, yes: the sliding doors, powered step and quiet hybrid make it easy to live with. It is long and tall, so check parking space and building ramps. Lexus does not publish ground clearance for India, so drive it over your usual speed breakers before buying.
