Our verdict on the eC3
The eC3 X is a sensible small EV for short daily runs, with a usefully tall cabin and a decent boot. Every variant gets the same battery, motor and claimed range, so the trims only change equipment. The weak points are a modest 57 PS motor, fast charging that takes close to an hour to reach 80%, and prices that have crept above ₹12 lakh. At that money we would line it up against the Tata Punch.ev and Tiago.ev before signing, and look hard at the discounts dealers are offering. If the deal is good and your daily use is mostly in town, the Live (O) is the one to buy.
Good things
- Same battery and range on every variant, so the entry car loses nothing on running cost
- Tall body and 315-litre boot make it roomier than most small EVs
- Battery-as-a-Service option cuts the upfront price sharply
Could be better
- 57 PS is modest, and highway overtakes need planning
- DC fast charging to 80% takes about 57 minutes, which slows long trips
- Prices above ₹12 lakh put it close to EVs with more range
- Sources disagree on airbag count by variant; check the car you are buying

Citroen eC3: same battery in every variant, so buy on equipment
The eC3 X is the 2026 update of Citroen’s electric C3 hatchback. The 29.2 kWh battery and the 57 PS front motor carry over, but Citroen now quotes a higher claimed range of about 320 km, and the car gets LED projector headlamps, new alloys and a refreshed cabin on the top trim. The old Feel variant has gone and Live (O) takes its place.
The range is short and simple: Live, Live (O) and Shine, all with the same battery and motor. That means the cheapest car has the same range and charging as the most expensive one, and the trims are separated only by features. As of October 2026 the ex-showroom spread is ₹12.09 lakh to ₹13.36 lakh, before any dealer discount.
Practicality is the strength. It sits tall, the cabin is airy for a car under four metres, and the 315-litre boot is larger than many petrol hatchbacks. The compromise is performance and charging speed: 143 Nm is enough in traffic, but fast charging to 80% takes nearly an hour, so long trips need patience.
Which variant should you buy?
Live (O). For ₹36,000 over the base Live it brings the touchscreen with Android Auto/Apple CarPlay and a reversing camera, which you will use every day. Shine adds LED projector lamps, alloys, a digital driver display and a wireless charger for another ₹91,000. Nice to have, but the battery and range do not change.
Is the range enough?
The claimed figure is about 320 km. Real-world range will be lower, especially on the highway and with the AC working hard. For a daily commute of 40–60 km with home charging it is comfortable. If you regularly drive between cities, the near one-hour fast-charge time will be the bigger frustration.
Buy outright or with battery rental?
Citroen offers a Battery-as-a-Service plan that brings the upfront price down to about ₹6.89 lakh, with a per-kilometre battery charge on top. It suits low annual mileage. If you drive a lot, the rental adds up, and buying outright usually works out cheaper over a few years. Do the sum on your own kilometres first.
How does it compare with the Tata Punch.ev?
At this price the Punch.ev is the obvious alternative, and Tata offers bigger battery options with more claimed range. The eC3 X answers with a roomier boot and simpler pricing. Compare the exact variants you can afford, and include the current discounts on both.
