Skoda Slavia

It is one of the few sedans left under ₹20 lakh with a proper turbo petrol, a 521-litre boot and a 5-star Global NCAP rating. It suits buyers who want a long, comfortable car that is good to drive, not an SUV.

Our verdict on the Slavia
The Slavia was already one of the best-driving cars at this price, and the 2026 update fixes its main gaps. The 8-speed automatic is smoother than the old 6-speed, the screens are bigger, and comfort features such as ventilated seats and rear massage are now offered. The boot is huge and the cabin is roomy for four. The low seating and 179 mm ground clearance need care on bad roads, the base Classic is plain with steel wheels and halogen lamps, and Skoda's service reach is thinner than Honda's or Hyundai's in smaller towns. If you want a sedan, compare it with the Volkswagen Virtus and Hyundai Verna on price and nearest workshop; for most buyers we would take a Signature automatic.
Good things
- Big 521-litre boot and comfortable rear seat
- Turbo engines that feel strong on highways
- Six airbags, ESC and 5-star Global NCAP rating as standard
- 4-year warranty and labour-free services included
Could be better
- Low seating; scraping on speed breakers is possible with a full load
- Base Classic has steel wheels and a small screen
- No diesel, CNG or hybrid option
- Thinner service network in smaller towns

Skoda Slavia: a big-boot sedan that still drives well
The Slavia is Skoda's mid-size sedan, made in India on the same base as the Kushaq SUV and the Volkswagen Virtus. The August 2026 facelift brought new lights with sequential rear indicators, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with a Google-powered voice assistant, a 360-degree camera on higher trims and, most usefully, an 8-speed torque-converter automatic for the 1.0 TSI.
Two turbo petrol engines are offered. The 1.0 TSI makes 115 PS and 178 Nm with a 6-speed manual or the 8-speed automatic. The 1.5 TSI makes 150 PS and 250 Nm, and comes only with a 7-speed DSG on the Prestige and Monte Carlo trims. Claimed economy ranges from 18.79 km/l for the 1.5 DSG to 19.76 km/l for the 1.0 manual.
At around 4.55 metres long with a 2,651 mm wheelbase, the Slavia has more cabin and boot space than its compact-SUV price rivals, and its 521-litre boot is bigger than most mid-size SUVs offer. It keeps a 5-star Global NCAP rating and comes with a 4-year/1 lakh km standard warranty and four labour-free services.
Is the Slavia better than an SUV at the same price?
If you mostly drive on decent roads and want boot space, ride comfort and highway stability, yes. An SUV at the same price sits higher and copes better with bad roads and flooding. Ground clearance on the Slavia is 179 mm, which is fine for most city use but needs care on rough tracks.
Which engine should I choose?
The 1.0 TSI with the new automatic is enough for most families and is cheaper to buy. The 1.5 TSI is noticeably quicker on highways and adds cylinder deactivation, but costs about ₹1.7 lakh more than the Prestige 1.0 automatic and comes only with the DSG.
How does it compare with the Volkswagen Virtus?
They share engines, gearboxes and most of the body structure. Compare prices at local dealers, the equipment at your budget and the distance to each brand's workshop. Skoda includes a 4-year warranty as standard.
Is the base Classic worth buying?
It has the key safety kit, including six airbags, ESC and tyre pressure monitoring, and the same turbo engine as the rest. But it has steel wheels, halogen headlamps and a small screen, and there is no automatic. Classic+ is ₹1 lakh more and fixes most of that.
