Skoda Kodiaq
Skoda's flagship SUV, assembled in India, with a 204 PS 2.0 turbo petrol, a DSG automatic and four-wheel drive on every version. Sportline and Selection L&K are seven-seaters with a full driver-assist suite; the cheaper Lounge is a five-seater with a large boot. It suits buyers who want a refined, well-built big SUV that drives like a car.

Our verdict on the Kodiaq
The Kodiaq is one of the most complete big SUVs under ₹50 lakh. The 2.0 TSI and DSG are smooth and quick, 4x4 is standard, the ride is settled and the cabin feels well made and practical. The 2026 update fixed its main gap by adding ADAS and a 360-degree camera to Sportline. The catches: it is petrol only, so heavy highway users will spend more on fuel than in a diesel Fortuner or Gloster; the third row is best for children; and Skoda's service network is thinner than Toyota's or Mahindra's outside big cities. The Lounge is good value as a five-seater, but it lacks the driver aids. We would buy the Sportline, and only pay for the L&K if you want cooled and massaging seats.
Good things
- Smooth, punchy 2.0 TSI with DSG and 4x4 on every version
- Comfortable, car-like ride and tidy handling for its size
- Well-built, practical cabin with clever storage
- Sportline now gets ADAS and a 360-degree camera
Could be better
- Petrol only; fuel costs add up for high-mileage owners
- Third row is tight for adults
- Lounge misses ADAS and the 360-degree camera
- Smaller service network than Toyota or Mahindra outside big cities

Skoda Kodiaq: the refined seven-seater that drives like a car
The second-generation Kodiaq went on sale in India in April 2025 and is assembled at Skoda's Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar plant on the MQB platform. At 4,758 mm long with a 2,791 mm wheelbase it is a large SUV, but it keeps a car-like monocoque body rather than a ladder frame. The design is cleaner than before, with slim headlamps, a horizontal light strip in the grille on upper versions and C-shaped tail-lamps.
There is one engine: a 2.0-litre TSI turbo petrol making 150 kW (204 PS) and 320 Nm, with a 7-speed DSG automatic and four-wheel drive on every version. Skoda claims 14.86 km/l on the ARAI test. There is no diesel, which matters for buyers who cover long distances, and the 4x4 system is aimed at bad roads and slippery surfaces rather than serious off-roading.
The line-up runs from the five-seat Lounge at ₹36.99 lakh to the seven-seat Sportline at ₹44.99 lakh and Selection L&K at ₹46.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The May 2026 update gave Sportline adaptive cruise, lane assist, blind-spot alert, Matrix LED lights and a 360-degree camera. L&K adds Cognac leather and front seats with ventilation, heating and massage.
Kodiaq or Toyota Fortuner?
The Kodiaq rides better, handles better and has a richer, more modern cabin. The Fortuner has a diesel option, a tough ladder frame, stronger resale and a larger service network. Pick the Kodiaq for mostly paved roads and comfort; pick the Fortuner for heavy highway mileage, rough terrain or if resale is your priority.
Is the five-seat Lounge worth considering?
Yes, if you never need a third row. It has the same engine, gearbox and 4x4, plus a panoramic sunroof and a 786-litre boot, for ₹8 lakh less than Sportline. You lose ADAS, the 360-degree camera and some comfort features, and colour choice is narrower.
Can adults use the third row?
For short trips only. The third row suits children or occasional use. With all seats up the boot is just 281 litres, so a seven-up family trip needs a roof box or careful packing.
What about running costs?
Expect real-world economy well below the 14.86 km/l claim in city driving, as it is a heavy petrol 4x4. Service costs are higher than for mass-market SUVs, and workshops are fewer outside large cities, so check your nearest Skoda dealer before buying.
