Our verdict on the Kushaq
The facelift fixes the old Kushaq's weak spot. The new 8-speed automatic makes the 1.0 TSI smoother in traffic, and the equipment list now starts higher, with a sunroof and six airbags on every car. It still drives better than most rivals and the 1.5 TSI is properly quick. The catches are a rear seat and boot that feel tighter than a Creta's or Seltos's, a base Classic+ that is basic on screens, and a big jump from Classic+ to Signature. Skoda's service network is thinner than Hyundai's or Maruti's outside big cities, so check your nearest workshop first. We would buy a Signature automatic, and only stretch to the 1.5 if you drive a lot on highways.
Good things
- Turbo engines across the range, with a smooth new 8-speed automatic on the 1.0
- Tidy handling and a solid, well-damped ride
- Six airbags, ESC and 5-star Global NCAP rating as standard
- 4-year warranty and 4 labour-free services included
Could be better
- Rear seat is narrower than a Creta's or Seltos's for three adults
- Big price jump from Classic+ to Signature
- Thinner service network outside large cities
- No diesel or hybrid option for heavy users

Skoda Kushaq: the driver's pick with a proper automatic now
The Kushaq is Skoda's mid-size SUV, built in Pune on the same base as the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Slavia. The March 2026 update brought a new face with a lit light bar, connected tail-lamps, alloy wheels on every version and, most importantly, an 8-speed torque-converter automatic for the 1.0 TSI in place of the old 6-speed unit.
There are two turbo petrol engines. The 1.0 TSI makes 115 PS and 178 Nm and comes with a 6-speed manual or the new 8-speed automatic. The 1.5 TSI makes 150 PS and 250 Nm, pairs only with a 7-speed DSG, and adds rear disc brakes and cylinder deactivation. Claimed economy is 18.72–19.66 km/l depending on engine and gearbox.
At 4,229 mm long the Kushaq is shorter than a Creta or Seltos, and that shows in rear-seat width and boot space (385 litres to the parcel shelf). What it gives back is a planted, grown-up drive, a 5-star Global NCAP rating, six airbags and ESC on every version, and a 4-year/1 lakh km standard warranty with four labour-free services in the first two years.
Should I pick the 1.0 TSI or the 1.5 TSI?
For city use and mixed driving the 1.0 TSI with the 8-speed automatic is enough and smoother than before. The 1.5 TSI is worth it if you do regular highway runs with a full car, or simply enjoy driving. It costs about ₹1.1–1.2 lakh more than the same trim's 1.0 automatic and is only offered with the DSG.
Is the base Classic+ worth buying?
It has the safety basics, an electric sunroof and LED lights, but a small 7-inch screen and 16-inch wheels. The automatic version also gets cruise control and hill hold. If your budget stops at ₹11 lakh, it is a fair buy; otherwise Signature fixes most of what is missing.
How does it compare with the Volkswagen Taigun?
They share engines, gearboxes and most of the structure. Choose on price at your dealer, the styling you prefer and which brand has the better workshop near you. The Kushaq's rear seat massage and 4-year warranty are small extras on Skoda's side.
Is it big enough for a family of five?
Four adults fit comfortably. Three across the rear is tighter than in a Creta, Seltos or Grand Vitara, and the boot is smaller. For a family that tours often with a full load, a larger rival makes more sense.
