Our verdict on the Duster
The new Duster is a big step up from the old one: better built, safer and far better equipped. The 1.3 turbo gives it real pace, the ride and ground clearance suit bad roads, and the boot is large for the class. The 1.0 turbo is fine for city use but feels stretched with a full load, and the DCT is only offered with the bigger engine. There is no diesel and no 4x4 yet, and the hybrid has not gone on sale. Renault's dealer network is smaller than Hyundai's or Maruti's, so check how far your nearest workshop is. If those boxes are ticked, an Adventure 1.3 is the one we would buy, and it is worth comparing with a Creta, Seltos and Kushaq on price.
Good things
- Strong 163 PS turbo petrol with a choice of manual or DCT
- 212 mm ground clearance and a large boot
- 5-star Bharat NCAP rating; ADAS on the top trim
- Long warranty cover through the Renault Forever programme
Could be better
- 1.0 turbo feels stretched with a full load
- No diesel or 4x4 option yet
- Hybrid announced but not yet priced
- Renault's service network is thinner than the segment leaders'

Renault Duster: the name is back, on a much better SUV
The Duster returned to India in March 2026 as an all-new model on the same CMF-B family of platforms that underpins today's Dacia Duster abroad. It is built in Chennai and is larger, safer and better equipped than the original, with LED lights all round, a 10.1-inch touchscreen from the Evolution trim and a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating.
Two turbo petrol engines are offered. The TCe 100 is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder with 100 PS and 166 Nm, offered only with a 6-speed manual. The TCe 160 is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder with 163 PS and 280 Nm, with a 6-speed manual or 6-speed DCT. Claimed economy is 17.75 to 19.41 km/l. A strong hybrid is promised for later.
At 4,346 mm long with a 2,657 mm wheelbase and 212 mm of ground clearance, it competes with the Creta, Seltos, Grand Vitara and Kushaq. The boot holds 518 litres to the parcel shelf, and top versions add a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, ventilated seats and Level 2 ADAS. Renault offers up to 7 years/1.5 lakh km of warranty cover under its Renault Forever programme, including 3 years as standard.
Is the 1.0 TCe 100 enough?
For city driving and occasional trips with two or three people, yes. If you carry a full load often or drive on highways, the 1.3 TCe 160 is much stronger and costs ₹1–1.3 lakh more at the same trim. Only the 1.3 is offered with an automatic.
Should I wait for the hybrid?
Renault says the 1.8-litre strong hybrid will arrive around Diwali 2026, but it has no price yet. If you drive a lot in city traffic, it may be worth waiting to see the price; otherwise the turbo petrols are ready now.
Which variant has the best value?
Adventure adds the panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, full LED headlamps and connected car app for ₹0.9–1.3 lakh over Evolution, which is a fair price. Techno+ and Iconic add screens, parking sensors, ADAS and ventilated seats that you may or may not need.
How does it compare with the Creta?
The Duster has more ground clearance, a strong turbo engine across the range and a lower starting price. The Creta offers a diesel, a wider choice of automatics and a much larger service network. Your nearest workshop and fuel choice should decide it.
