Our verdict on the Tekton
The Tekton is a strong new entry. The 1.3 turbo is quick, the cabin is well equipped from N-Connecta up, and the 5-star Bharat NCAP result, six airbags and 212 mm ground clearance tick the family boxes. The lower trims use the 100 PS 1.0 turbo, which is adequate but feels stretched in a car this size, and the base Visia has steel wheels and no touchscreen. There is no diesel or hybrid, and Nissan's service network is much smaller than Hyundai's, Kia's or Maruti's, which also affects resale. It shares mechanicals with the Renault Duster, so compare the two on price and nearest workshop. We would buy an N-Connecta 1.3, and stretch to a Tekna DCT only if ADAS and ventilated seats matter to you.
Good things
- Strong 163 PS 1.3 turbo with manual or DCT
- 5-star Bharat NCAP rating and six airbags as standard
- Well equipped from N-Connecta: sunroof, dual-zone AC, big screens
- 212 mm ground clearance and a large boot
Could be better
- 100 PS 1.0 turbo feels stretched in a car this size
- Base Visia is sparse: steel wheels, no touchscreen
- No diesel or hybrid option
- Nissan's service network is small, which also hurts resale

Nissan Tekton: a well-equipped Creta rival with a strong turbo
The Tekton is Nissan's new mid-size SUV for India, built in Chennai on the same platform and with the same engines as the Renault Duster. It has its own Patrol-inspired styling, connected LED lights front and rear and a different cabin, and it is also exported to markets such as South Africa, Nepal and Bhutan. Prices run from ₹10.49 lakh to ₹18.59 lakh ex-showroom.
Two turbo petrol engines are offered. The T160 is a 1.0-litre three-cylinder with 100 PS and 166 Nm, offered only with a 6-speed manual (19.4 km/l claimed). The T280 is a 1.3-litre four-cylinder with 163 PS and 280 Nm, with a 6-speed manual (17.8 km/l) or a 6-speed wet-clutch DCT (18.5 km/l). DCT versions add an electronic parking brake, auto hold and rear disc brakes.
It is 4,349 mm long with a 2,657 mm wheelbase, 212 mm of ground clearance and a 518-litre boot to the parcel shelf. It scored five stars in Bharat NCAP, and every version has six airbags and ESC. Higher trims add a panoramic sunroof, dual-zone climate control, ventilated seats, Level 2 ADAS and a 360-degree camera, with Google built-in on the top Tekna+.
Should I pick the T160 or the T280?
The T160 1.0 turbo is fine for city driving, but the Tekton is a big car and the T280 1.3 turbo is far more relaxed on highways and with a full load. At N-Connecta the T280 manual costs ₹1.3 lakh more, and it is the only engine offered with an automatic.
How is it different from the Renault Duster?
They share the platform, engines and gearboxes. The Tekton has different styling, a different cabin and its own trim structure; both start at ₹10.49 lakh. Compare the trim you want on price and equipment, and check which brand's workshop is nearer.
Is the base Visia worth it?
Only on a tight budget. It has the safety basics and LED headlamps, but steel wheels and no touchscreen. Visia+ adds a 9-inch touchscreen with wireless phone mirroring and a rear camera for ₹65,000 more, and is the sensible starting point.
Which trims get ADAS?
Level 2 ADAS starts at Tekna, including autonomous emergency braking, lane keep assist and blind spot warning. Adaptive cruise control with stop and go is offered only with the DCT. Tekna+ adds a 360-degree camera and more ADAS functions.
